Went for take away there and it was brilliant. Everything is at least vegetarian and the staff is keen to make them vegan, so all good for that, especially here in France. Menu is extensive, shows variety and I got this weird feeling that nothing is proposed out of laziness. Got this falafel sandwich with chili and this homemade mango sauce, I'll definitely come back to get more. Service was quick and friendly, but if you are an introvert, beware.
Charle's is a vegetarian restaurant on rue Ste Colombe not far from the Grosse Cloche in Bordeaux. It serves largely eastern Mediterranean cuisine from a small but capable restaurant. The location is pretty vibrant thanks.to the range of other eateries all with outside seating. It can have a buzzing atmosphere during busy periods. Of a warm Saturday lunchtime, Charle's was busy and some had to wait. Of a midweek lunchtime it had the air of being closed. Most of the seating is outside with a couple of bar stools within. Outside is clearly the better option and comes with parasols. Seating is basic and as this is a small restaurant there isn't a huge amount of space. The food ranged from excellent to ok. The falafel meal with huomous was delicious. A delightful mix of sauces and an excellent flavour. An entree of houmous itself wasn't as good as it was overly fussy with too many textures such as cucumber and eggs. The aubergine main course was ok. The aubergine came with pine nuts, tomatoes, cucumber, and sauce. It was served with a flatbread and was a reasonable overall combination. Desserts were good. A brioche came served with a lot of tasty caramelised sauce along with pine nuts. The chocolate cake was exceptional. Absolutely delicious in a beautifully designed sauce. Service was a bit mixed. The waitresses were friendly and capable, offering English if needed though French is naturally a more useful tool. For a midweek lunchtime there was an initial sense of not being welcome due to some frostiness from the owners but at least the waitresses are friendly. Price is ok. It isn't a cheap place but a three course meal comes in at €20 when selecting one of the few options that come in combination. At its best, Charle's is a really good eastern Mediterranean restaurant. It is fully vegetarian and has a range of different options to choose from.
We didn't really enjoy the food and ingredients are not really matching with each others but we were hungry and we still finish our plates, nevertheless I will not recommend this place. The cook was also behaving badly and thinking he is Gordon Ramsay. Not a good atitude
Passing through the street, I noticed this small vegetarian restaurant and I thought it was absolutely necessary to test, verdict I'm not disappointed! The manager is absolutely adorable and super welcoming, if this is your first time, it will be a pleasure to explain the base of his kitchen. I chose the classic 'sabish' in the homemade pita bread with orange blossom and olive oil. Inside, you will find plenty of vegetables and an absolutely ravishing sesame. A real pleasure! There are also daily dishes as well as desserts, I haven't tasted yet, but it can't be late!
