Fish and chips were really good, atmosphere is dark and moody and cosy, staff friendly and totally on top of it. Black Swan porter perfect. Will go back for sure. View all feedback.
What Z K doesn't like about Black Dog Village Pub Bistro:
We have been meeting family friends for lunch here for almost a decade because the food is always impeccable, the service always phenomenal and atmosphere lovely.Today, we sadly had miserable and curt waitress whom was clearly not interested in providing any meaningful service. There are plenty of other venues with equally excellent menus whom would love for us to spend couple of hundred dollars on lunch on regular ba... First thing, get reservations. This is a small restaurant and seating is limited. Service is top notch, really, beyond what I've experienced from any other restaurant in Bayfield or Goderich. The menu is refined and delicious. We got the caramelized onion dip for an appetizer. It was more than enough for our party of 4 to split, however, we could have used more chips. The gnocchi was a tad salty for my taste but my SO loved it. I had the penne and it was lovely. Our friends had the burger and were very happy with their choice. We got the Guinness chocolate cake for dessert but we were all underwhelmed. I would say one slice is enough to share between two people. The atmosphere is very similar to every other Irish pub I've visited. The bar is very well stocked for those with more discerning taste. Their beer selection has a little something for everyone, I was told the strawberry fruli was perfect, fruity but not overly sweet. I would say the price was a bit on the higher end. I spent the same amount the night before at another pub/restaurant and the service and food weren't remotely as good as at Black Dog.
My wife and I were staying in Bayfield this evening, a last minute weekend away without the kids, and our chance to celebrate valentines together, as I was away on business last week. Our dinner plans fell apart, so we went to the Black Dog, which has been one of our favorites. We knew the kitchen had just closed but hoped we could at least get a drink. The barman was calling last call, to which my wife commented “why do they close before 9 pm on a Saturday night?” The barman said “you don’t have to stay if you don’t want to” so we left. Probably never to return. Shame, because I quite liked this place.

Always a favourite spot when I'm in Bayfield!! Fantastic food Drinks and such a cozy spot in the winter, with a great summer patio!
A terribly disappointing experience. We booked a table for two for our 3rd anniversary. When we booked we were only able to get a table for 7:30. They close at 8:30. When we arrived there were empty tables so we could have gone earlier if they had called us, and not felt like we had to rush. We struggled with the limited wine list and felt pressured to make a choice without any assistance from the server. We each had the soup of the day which was a roasted butternut squash. It arrived with pine nuts. It was bland and would have benefited from salt and pepper but neither were on the table. The soup was also served in a deep bowl and was a bit much for an appetizer (it was not appetizing) For our mains we had the steak frites and chicken supreme. Each were over $35 dollars. The steak I believe was a roast not a steak. If was tough and under seasoned . The fries were cold, old,and woody but were smothered in a bland gravy to make them seem warm. The chicken supreme tasted stale. Overall, we were left disappointed and would not recommend this restaurant to others.
