Our waitress was an absolute delight—kind, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. She patiently answered all of our questions, and we never felt rushed throughout the evening. The new chef’s menu selections were outstanding. From the heavenly bread options (we ordered both! to the perfectly cooked duck, every bite was exceptional. We couldn’t resist ordering all of the desserts, and they were simply divine! We loved the personal touch of adding a candle to the cake that we were able to take home. As someone currently expecting, I would have appreciated a wider variety of mocktail options, though the seasonal mocktail and iced tea were delightful. I’m sure more options would have been available if I had asked. I had requested to sit upstairs but we were seated downstairs instead, which I didn’t mind at all—especially after realizing why when we got the check! Seeing local celebrities at dinner truly made our night extra special. Overall, it was an unforgettable evening, and we are already looking forward to our next visit!

Having visited several times, I am consistently impressed by the quality and creativity of the food. The menu is filled with delightful options, but the chicken cordon bleu stands out as a personal favorite. It’s perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The French onion soup is another highlight—it's the best I've ever had, with a rich and savory broth that is simply sublime. The wine pairing recommended by Adam, our server, was spot-on and elevated the meal to new heights. Adam was attentive and timely. The atmosphere at Tailleur is a visual delight, with a carefully curated interior that invites you to discover something new each time you visit. The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive, making me feel welcomed and well taken care of every visit. Overall, Tailleur is an outstanding dining destination in Kansas City. Whether you’re looking for a special night out or just a fantastic meal, this restaurant delivers on all fronts. Update 9-16-24 After returning to Kansas City, I revisited Tailleur with some hesitation, having heard that their chef had changed since my last visit. The new chef is classically French-trained, and while I was prepared for potential disappointment, I decided to give it a try. I ordered the steak au poivre, and to my delight, it was exceptional. The peppercorn sauce was exquisite—rich and flavorful without overpowering the dish. The side salad, though simple, was a perfect counterbalance to the main course, light and refreshing. To complement the meal, I opted for Henry Varnas Rosé, a bubbly choice that might seem unconventional with steak, but it was a delightful surprise. Definitely worth trying if you’re looking for something a bit different. Tailleur continues to impress, even with the change in leadership in the kitchen.

For that you get some grapes, a few mini pastries (scone, muffins, biscuit), three finger sandwiches, a macaron, and tea or coffee. Just bagged tea, not loose leaf or any special blend. They charge mandatory 20% gratuity (table of 4), so it comes to just over $78 with tax for finger foods and a couple cups of tea. Pastries are good, but not particularly special. Paid cash and wasn't given change despite the built-in gratuity, which was an interesting choice. The ambiance is lovely, and I think they're counting on people being so impressed by that they're willing to forgive everything else. The servers were fine, and everything was quick. We had considered going back for dinner but won't. I don't mind tipping well for good service, but it feels so gross and presumptuous to do it this way (I'd prefer they just raise the price overall and state it's included up front.... or pay their workers themselves, but that's a different conversation). 100% not worth it. It was fine, but there are better pastries and tea elsewhere, and nothing made this feel special enough to justify the cost. I like expensive restaurants, but only when something is particularly excellent. This wasn't it.
