I went on a whim. I was kind of in the mood for sushi, but wasn't in the mood to drive. The location is absolutely ideal as it's smack-dab in the heart of downtown. I will say that the ambiance was the biggest highlight. The music was fun and upbeat. The entire inside made me feel far from downtown. They had the cutest booths I had ever seen. What Sarah B doesn't like about Sakebar:
I really don't want to write this place a bad review, because it's super cute inside, I really liked the private booths and the server and sushi chef were adorable... They also have $1 Japanese beers on Fridays, which is awesome... All of that being said, the food was just bad. We ordered the shrimp veggie tempura and the Chirashi (sashimi on rice). The tempura tasted like a bad Chinese knockoff of tempura, and the s... View all feedback.
Do NOT go here. Went with a group of friends for some sushi and the waiter was incredibly rude. The service was awful even though we were the only table inside and they tried to cheat us of our order. We ordered the crazy crunch roll and godzilla roll, along with 3 other dishes. The description of the rolls are as follows: [crazy] In: tuna, salmon, yellowtail, cucumber, avocado [crazy] Out: red tobiko, crunchy, wasabi, spicy mayo, eel sauce. [godzilla] In: shrimp tempura, unagi (eel), cucumber, crunchy. [godzilla] Out: avocado, black, red, orange tobiko. The chef did not put any eel or any tuna in the respective rolls. We brought this to the attention of our server, but instead of politely agreeing to take care of it, he distrusted us and gave us attitude. We told him that the tuna was supposed to be inside of the sushi and even offered to make it easy for everyone, just to have the chef put the tuna on a plate and we'll put it on top of the sushi ourselves. He seemed annoyed and we had to show him the menu. It took 10 minutes to bring this. The same happened with the missing eel, but it never was delivered to our table. We are grad students, not trying to cheat anyone here, but respect from the server was truly lacking. My friend and I both went up separate times to ask for water refills and the eel. The waiter told the chef he wanted eel but then continued studying his school book. 30 minutes had past since the godzilla dish with the missing sushi was brought to the table and still no eel after we spoke to the waiter. Other dishes were seen being put in to-go boxes but our issue was not being handled. We asked him finally for the bill, then asked him to remove the one order because we had been waiting forever and were still not provided with eel. The waiter was EXTREMELY RUDE and took an attitude with us even though we were calm and not taking any tone. He said that we were off for not giving the chef a chance because he was new. The errors happened twice, the service was bad, and we never got the eel after being in the restaurant for an hour. I don't think the server should work in any customer service role. He should not talk to customers like he was and it should never take that long especially when there's only one party to serve. If you want to study your book and not be disturbed, that's a library job, not a customer-facing restaurant job. We will never come back.

I will say that the ambiance was the biggest highlight. The music was fun and upbeat. The entire inside made me feel far from downtown. They had the cutest booths I had ever seen. I sat at the bar and ordered a sake. I couldn't believe the number of bottles to choose from. I was alone and just ordered a glass of the house sake, which came warm. I know where to head in winter months! As a vegan, my taste in sushi is a little different than average. They had the normal rolls for veg-heads, but nothing special. I got it and it was par. Salad and miso soup were not the best in B-town...
Best sushi in town by far, same owners as Japanee but the restaurant is a lot smaller and more intimate. They don't have kitchen entrees like Japanee but they are dedicated to serving amazing sushi and have great appetizers as well. This place is a hundred times better than Ami (I have no idea why people like that place besides that I heard they don't ID). Our server, I think her name is Lily, was really friendly and the service is fast. The Diablo, Tiger, and Bloomington rolls are my favorite. I would normally never eat sashimi in Indiana but the fish here is really fresh and they don't need spicy mayo to cover up any questionable fishy taste. But don't get me wrong the spicy mayo is delicious. They also have a huge selection of sake and wine as well. Literally an entire wall of the restaurant is dedicated to bottled happiness, it's the Ollivanders Wand Shop of sake and wine. Definitely try the flavored sake, the lychee and Fuji apple is my favorite!
Ordered three specialty rolls: Hanna, Diablo, Lion King. Hanna roll was so amazingly creamy fresh! Server was generous with my delicious fruity wine. Absolutely affordable considering the size extravagance of these rolls. Definitely will return very soon. Perfect for my anniversary dinner. Also absolutely love the Peachy Roll Crazy Friday Roll.

The tempura tasted like a bad Chinese knockoff of tempura, and the sashimi was just.. bad. It tasted like it had been slightly warmed by mistake, which gave it a mushy texture. The salad that came with it was covered with what looked and tasted like old thousand island dressing. I'm sorry, sake bar. I really did want to like you... but your food needs a serious overhaul.
