Being from the west coast, we definitely have high standards for Mexican food. La Chocita hit the spot! Homemade chips, simple yet delicious recipes, fresh juices..will absolutely go back when in the area. To note: it?s not a quiet place, very loud music playing, but it set the authentic atmosphere. What Chloe Marshall doesn't like about La Chocita:
This restaurant was a big disappointment. The food was far from enjoyable. They only offer 20 oz bottled drinks for $3 and don’t have refillable options. Even tap water comes with a charge of $3. When I raised a concern about the water charge, they brought me a Sam's Club bottle of water that costs $3 for a case of 40. My family loves Mexican cuisine, but the quality here was subpar. Absolutely fantastic! La Placita #1 is great as well, but this place had a relaxed atmosphere with music at just the right volume. The wooden furniture was both comfortable and beautiful. And of course, the food was amazing! I tried the pork belly tacos and the tacos al pastor, and both were delicious. The pork belly had a nice chewiness to it, but in a good way. Their salsas were a bit milder (though still quite spicy) compared to La Placita's. The highlight was the complimentary chicken soup, which was perfect since it was freezing outside.
I visited this restaurant for the first time and had a great experience. I definitely plan to return. I did notice that our server seemed quite young—around 16 years old—but that didn't affect my enjoyment. I highly recommend this place; it's fun, welcoming, and the food was fresh.
