Had a three course meal from the King William's festive menu while sat by a roaring fire and throughly enjoyed each course. Food, service and atmosphere all perfect. We come here often and it never lets us down. View all feedback.
What jueandmark68 doesn't like about King William:
Stopped for lunch as had always fancied trying this place out, the pub was very cold and we had to keep our outdoor coats on, it wasnt busy and the server was nice, for the price of the main menu i would have expected better, fish and chips probably the worst ive had, the oil tasted stale like it needed to be changed, chips overcooked did not look apealing and had a funny taste, the fried cabbage on the other meal wa... The service at this restaurant is warm and friendly, the food is excellent and reasonably priced. It was nice to sit by the open fire on a chilly day. We will definitely be returning on our future walks.
After enjoying a brisk walk around the reservoirs on a chilly day, we stopped by the King Bill for a late lunch. The night before, we had visited for a drink and enjoyed the open mic night, featuring singers, guitarists, a pianist, and accordionist. It was a fantastic evening of talent. Upon our arrival today, we were welcomed by a cozy log fire. The food was as delicious as always - I opted for the sea bass special while my husband enjoyed a mushroom starter and a small cheese and onion pie. We finished with a decadent milk chocolate and blackcurrant cheesecake, my personal favorite. The service was top-notch, with friendly and welcoming staff. Thank you for the wonderful meal and warm atmosphere before we headed back home.
We have been occasional patrons of this restaurant for over 40 years and have witnessed many changes during that time. It appears that the establishment has become complacent since acquiring a regular clientele. In the catering industry, it is important to consistently deliver high-quality meals, as you are only as good as your last dish. Unfortunately, the menu was monotonous, with some main ingredients being used repeatedly. My order of Hake on crushed potatoes with buttered green beans was disappointing. The potatoes were dry and tasteless, while the beans were undercooked and lacking in seasoning. The hake was overcooked and dry, with only one piece being cooked properly. Despite the subpar meal, no one inquired about our satisfaction. The restaurant now allows dogs, which is appreciated, but we endured a disruptive barking dog throughout our meal, as the staff did not address the issue. Service was lacking, with no offer of refills until after we had finished eating. Dessert options were limited, and the brownie I ordered was not as described. The menu lacked variety and allergen information, and staff seemed more interested in socializing than attending to customers. Overall, the restaurant's standards have declined and do not reflect the reputation it once held.

Fab food and friendly service really high quality and large portions : despite it being absolutely packed because of the tractor run, no slipping in their high standards, thanks for a lovely time
