Last week, we visited this pub several times, and we absolutely loved it. It has a wonderful atmosphere that feels genuinely old-fashioned. The selection of beers and apple wines is impressive, and the menu is quite good as well. I would definitely recommend paying a visit! View all feedback.
What Vaughan E doesn't like about The Old Contemptibles:
Lovely pub with a nice atmosphere, but the beers were awful, i only drink real ales and ended up drinking Guinness. I tried Salcome, UBU and sampled a couple of others, very disappointed, no head and no mouth feel. £16.75 for 3 pints! View all feedback.

We arrived as a group of five sixty-year-olds, looking to enjoy a casual drink, and we certainly had a great time. Kudos to the staff for finding us a suitably large table at the back after they had closed for food service. They offered an excellent selection of beers, and we managed to sample several of them. Overall, it was a pleasant and relatively quiet place to enjoy an evening drink.
A beautiful building, I was there for lunch mid week. Lovely friendly and prompt service. A varied menu but went for a favourite, fish and chips. Piping hot, large portion and delicious. Very relaxed atmosphere, I would go again, and would recommend.
Old school pub, even has a fruit machine! Had fish and chips, and a large coke. Old decor, great atmosphere in the centre of brum. Very rare nowadays.
I stopped by this charming and well-maintained Edwardian pub after reading good reviews. I truly appreciated the beautiful period architecture and decor, which tastefully honors World War I veterans—hence the name of the pub. The ambiance was cozy and relaxed, making it a lovely spot to unwind. I tried the Norton's ale-battered haddock and chips, and it was both delicious and expertly prepared, accompanied by a delightful Norton's gin and tonic. The friendly staff presented everything beautifully, and it was great value for a pub dinner. The rest of the menu also looks enticing, and I would definitely return if I'm in the area. I highly recommend this place—kudos to the team on shift that day! Looking forward to my next visit.
