The food was outstanding. Even though there was a long line out the door, the service was fast and friendly. I ordered the fried chicken breast which was cooked perfectly. Small hole in the wall place. Customer service was something to be desired. Maybe I was just there at a bad time and they had things going on. I ordered a slice of pie and a canned drink. It took forever to ring me up and pay for it. He kept coming and going from the back and I had my pie and drink sitting on counter by register with wallet in hand. The food was fantastic and they even provided me with the TV remote in the back to help me relax on a hot day after a long journey.
This place is amazing! I got the fried chicken, mac and cheese and greens. the dame works (possibly the owner? was the sweetest person at all and gave us a free sample of pancakes! if you don't know that pancake is soouo good! will definitely go back and tell everyone how great this place is!
Tastes like real house cooked seafood. greens and yams were delicious. I didn't plan to finish my plate (big portions), but I couldn't stop. we have the pancake.
Z's restaurant embodies the nostalgic charm of traditional Birmingham. This family-owned establishment serves up homemade dishes that are filled with soul. Our late Sunday lunch was a true treat, especially the pies and cobbler that we couldn't resist taking home with us. We will definitely be returning to support this wonderful Birmingham business!
