My partner is a tragic, she insisted... read more We were staying in Warracknabeal and were told by a local that there was a bakery that did the most amazing vanilla slice. My partner is a tragic, she insisted we drive the 45 minutes to get a CAKE. Anyway, devoted to her happiness as I am away we went. The bakery was absolutely buzzing. In a tiny country town I reckon every single local (plus out of towners and tourists) had converged on this one shop for lunch. Every table (both inside and out) was taken and there was a line 15 deep ready to make purchases. Our lunch with coffee was fantastic (and not such a long wait, all things considered) and everyone seemed happy. After lunch my partner lined up to get some "supplies" ... a tray of vanilla slices, some apple slices then she spotted cakes called "beestings". "What are they", I cried. "you remember, I had them in Adelaide a few years ago ... they are magic". THREE trays later we got in the car and drove home. I'm not a sweets or cake eater but SERIOUSLY these were the best, best, BEST slices I've ever eaten. The beestings? Oh dear, I reckon I put on a kilogram over the next few days. Food for the angels, in my humble opinion.

We phone an order a few days ahead and fill the car frid... read more Whenever we travel into NSW or Victoria we go our of our way to visit the bakery on the way back to SA. We phone an order a few days ahead and fill the car fridge with these beautiful vanilla slices. They freeze incredibly well. Thus we can enjoy them for weeks.

My husband had a steak and kidney pie and a Mallee Bull pie; I had a chicken Wellington pie. We do highly recommend the three that we tried and the vanilla slices were the best, it has been a very long time since I have had one the tasted so good. It was a Friday and very busy but the staff were efficient, patient and very helpful. This bakery is on our must definitely call in again when passing through. We highly recommend this bakery five star rating in our book!!
