We asked the barmaid for a cocktail and she did not try to understand what we wanted at all.... read more The bar itself is absolutely gorgeous with ax really nice ambience. We asked the barmaid for a cocktail and she did not try to understand what we wanted at all. She then told us that they don’t serve cocktails until later… A local customer thought the barmaid had been rude and clearly had a dislike for tourists. He translated on our behalf and that’s how we managed to get a drink in the end. We settled for a gin and tonic (having asked for a martini) and a rum (having asked for a Manhattan). Not the wonderful experience that others have had and we actually noticed that she had all the ingredients to make the cocktails that we wanted but for some reason she refused. It was our first drink in Bilbao and such a shame! The much busier bar down the road La Antigua Cigarreria was more friendly and able to offer the cocktails we had hoped for.

With a very central location it is easy to get to so we had no difficulty finding it, also because the exterior is very unique and attractive. I came with my family and we all tried different types of pinchos, and each one of us was very happy with both the presentation and the taste of all of them. Another favourite part of mine was the cocktails; very tasty and not overpriced, worth every penny! The ambiance of the bar is very peaceful and comfortable, with superb staff who make the bar very welcoming and happy. It is perfect for drinks with family or friends; I would highly recommend this bar to anyone visiting Bilbao, or even if you live there!

We started off outside on the small terr... read more We found this place having read ‘Trip Advisor’ and were glad we went. We only had drinks, so can’t comment on the food. We started off outside on the small terrace, with another customer playing his guitar and singing with his friends, creating a lovely ambience. Then it got a bit cooler, so went inside and were so glad we did! The interior was beautiful, following an ‘Art Deco’ style. Also the barman was really friendly and spoke to us proudly about the enormous range of drinks on offer, showing us the gin cupboard, whisky cupboard etc. We really enjoyed our visit to Bar Basque, made by the beautiful interior and friendly service.
