We went there for New Year's Eve, and I think Not Your Average Joe's can easily be considered one of our top three favorite restaurants. Our server, Norah, was fantastic with her suggestions and provided great service. The gluten-free bread and carrot cake were the best I've ever had. Our entrées were delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed our high chair seats. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Not Your Average Joe's Bethesda:
The server only approached our table to take our initial drink orders, serve our food, and deliver the check. She never returned to check on our drinks after the first round or to see if we needed anything else. Three people in our group ordered crab cakes, and the potato wedges that accompanied the meals were very dark brown and almost black from being overcooked. Eating was excellent! try the jambalaya! service was really good and attentive. very clean and pleasant restaurant. we will certainly be back for more.
We found the food better than our last visit although my husband/s salmon dish was a bit too salty. The waitress was Ok. It sometimes took a while before she checked back at the table- mainly after we first sat down and when we waited for the bill. Where we sat was very drafty- not comfortable on a cold night.
Our waiter was very pleasant and worked hard to try and take care of our table of 9 people; however, service was incredibly slow and the billing confusing; apparently, the kitchen staff was very new and inexperienced. Bread, Drinks/wine and cocktails were great; my Penne Alla Vodka was delicious (and the kitchen correctly did not add any meat per my request); the side salad was ONLY lettuce for me, but my sister in law's had tomato, onion, etc.; most people did not like their dinner, especially the mustard-crusted chicken, which was tough and dry. I like the convenient location and parking, and I used to like coming here; I am hopeful things will improve.
The lights hanging over the tables are horrible — way too bright and kill any ambiance. Like the bar area much better than dining section. Frankly, really still miss Hamburger Hamlet. Decent food except sheet pan nachos. Beef tips were not properly seared.
Great but bread we look forward to was stale and cold.
