Came here encouraged by the reviews. I 'm not mentioning the aesthetics of the place, because they are of little meaning for me. The menu of the day was 14€ and the portions were huge. (Is this what attracts all the people here? We were given: stale bread, paella with chicken, which meant cooked rice with unseasoned chicken, close to no veggies or sauce, marmitako de bonito (tuna can 't say much because it was the first time I had the dish, but it was a rather bland tomato pepper soup with potatoes and some tuna, raya a la gallega unsalted boiled fish with some olive oil and dry pepper powder edible after adding some lemon from the other fish dish, but nothing special, lenguado rebojado fish covered in a thick fried egg coating, super fatty and lacking spices and any flavor balance, We ended up leaving most of the food behind and gave up on desserts. I imagine this is what food must have tasted like before spices became widely available in the middle ages and it certainly does not belong in a restaurant of any kind.
Even if you do not speak Spanish, this place is worth it! Just get Google translate out, it’s 2024. Get the meal of the day, it’s 13 euro for 3 courses. Every dish was amazing and you leave full. If you are looking for a full immersion Basque cultural experience, this is it. Dive in and enjoy. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Fabulous lunch, recommended by a guy in Bilbao so we got the metro to Bermeo and it was worth the journey, obviously no English spoken but we did our research before we went and knew what we wanted to order, the marmitaco de bonita, a Basque speciality, was amazing, as was the cocido de garbanzos, massive portions and the cheesecake was to die for, serving staff were helpful and courteous, so glad we went. Good daily menu. The exquisite marmitako, accompanied with txakoli. From the second it looks very good. Delicious homemade desserts, goxua and apple pie. Attention and close service from the staff. Yay Athletic! Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: €10–20
Spectacular place with lots of traditional food at a sensible price, the tuna marmitaco, the chicharro or the knuckle were very good and the desserts, any of the ones we ate were delicious. Price per person: €20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes: Marmitaco de Atún, Tarta de Queso Horneada
