I’m honestly shocked by how badly I was treated here. The service was awful from start to finish — my order was mixed up, no one seemed to care, and when it came time to pay, the card machine didn’t even work. I paid in cash, but they refused to give me my change and started speaking in French, clearly mocking customers. When I asked for my change, it was thrown at me instead of handed over politely. I left feeling humiliated and disrespected. No one deserves to be treated this way. Absolutely unacceptable and I will never return.

So, we had dinner last night at a spot called Makenene in Berlin, spelled M-A-K-E-N-E-N-E, just for the record and it turned out to be quite a memorable experience. The building itself is nice, and although it felt a bit odd at first because there were just a couple of people around, once we settled in downstairs in their cozy seating area, the atmosphere felt just right. Our host, Junior, a Cameroonian who spoke German and French, did a great job despite the language barrier. He brought out Justina, the cook from Ghana, who let us know what she could prepare for us on the spot. And let me say, she took her time, and it was worth every minute. The food was truly excellent, fresh, flavorful, and far more authentic than the so-called Nigerian spot we tried earlier. I had boiled plantain with a rich, veggie-packed beef stew that was just fantastic. My wife had the same stew but with white rice, and we both cleaned our plates. It was that good. The service was warm and attentive, and the price was almost unbelievably reasonable—all under 30 euros for everything. In short, if you find yourself in Berlin and want a hearty, authentic meal with fantastic hospitality, Makenene is a five-star recommendation from us. They really made the evening special.

The eru was tasteless, no seasoning, Maggi, or salt. Came with pepper that you’d normally eat with fish, not eru.

The food wasn’t tasty, it’s unfortunate that the meals have been adjusted to fit the tastebuds of the Germans whilst ignoring the taste buds of the Africans. Also, the use of groundnut oil and no palm oil for egusi, for vegetable soups is a huge NO. The vegetable soup was more like eating plain raw vegetables without crayfish and the likes. The supposed spice which was provided on the side tasted sour. I bet they have their regular customers but it is definitely not for my taste buds unfortunately.
