Served by the owner herself we experienced a family like atmosphere with delicious, original Austrian food and perfect accompanying wines
A German friend suggested this popular Charlottenburg restaurant for superb Austrian food. We enjoyed a table for three at the door, where we had a splendid view of the restaurant’s bar and two large rooms, as well as the energetic owner managing a well-trained and...experienced staff and stopping by to chat with neighborhood regulars. The food was amazing. From the seasonal menu, “Ragout von der Hirschkeule mit Wildpreiselbeeren in der Williamsbirne und Semmelknödel” (Ragout of deer with wild cranberries in a pear and bread dumpling) was hearty and excellent for a chilly January evening. “Filetspitzen Stroganoff mit hausgemachten, gebratenen Spätzle” (Beef Stroganoff with homemade, roasted spaetzle) was scrumptious and it would have been great to have a few more spaetzle to absorb the rich sauce. “Zanderfilet in Rosmarin-Olivenöl gebraten, dazu Vogerlsalat mit geriebenem Schafskäse, gerösteten Kürbiskernen und steirischem Kürbiskernöl” (Crispy filet of pike perch fried in rosemary-olive oil with salad of lambs-lettuce in pumpkin seed dressing and grated feta cheese” was a lighter and perfectly cooked choice. The house red wine went well with all dishes. For dessert, we were tempted by the “Österreichischer Kaiserschmarrn mit Rumrosinen und Zwetschkenröster”, a celebrated “Kaiserschmarrn” cut up and caramelized pancake with rum raisins, served with plump compote. It was a bread pudding that took nearly an hour to arrive. We ate every crumb. Despite the high ceilings and two large groups, table conversation was pretty easy. The restaurant takes foreign credit cards.
