Feedback
I got to discover this Charlottenburg's little restaurant thanks to a tip from a friend. The quiche lorraine I was recommended to have for lunch was great, and it came with salad that had a nice dressing. They have several quiche lorraines that they made...on the same day, together with other pastry delicacies typical from Luxembourg. It was great to peek the daily life of the locals who come to have lunch everyday to De Maufel. Some of them even took away some food to eat at their houses or offices. I should come back and try the saucy pates they had on display, or have a fancier dinner in the evening!
Located in Berlin at the end of one of Charottenburg's friendliest streets, De Maufel has developed over the last 5 or 6 years into a wonderful place. It started as a small delicatessen and bistro, and extended into catering and dinner. The husband and chef...is from Luxembourg and the proprietress is German. Food and wine are from Luxembourg and the surrounding area. Lots of the offerings in the delicatessen are home made. The delicatessen is wonderful, including wines and chocolates, tartlets and pastries. The menus change weekly and include recurring standards as well as new dishes. The lunch menu offers several lighter dishes, while the dinner menu displays the prowess of the kitchen. I have had delicious oysters, snails, confit of duck, marinated trout, roasted lamb, and save room for the wonderful cheese after the meal. There are 3 or 4 course menus for between 35 and 45 Euros, or you can order a la carte. The service is friendly and professional. In the summer it's nicest to sit outside on the street, or in the first room where the delicatessen is located.
