We booked Pepes in the hope that we would have a memorable lunchtime with friends. We did, but for all the wrong reasons. Upon arrival we were ushered into the main restaurant, not the conservatory area that we had hoped for. This was dark, underlit and smelt strongly of smoke emanating from a poorly maintained log burner puffing away on one wall. Rather unwelcoming to say the least. From the outset it was clear that the staff were pushed to their limits. With about 100 people to cope with, at least three more waiters were desperately needed. A restaurant can´t afford to be in this situation on such an important day. Employ more hands! Food and drinks arrived, albeit slowly, BUT the plates were not cleared for absolutely ages and we were sitting there amidst a mountain of used crockery, cutlery and leftover food. Great! Unfortunately, the staff were rather surly as a result of being unable to cope with the workload. The food itself was average but the main course poor. Vegetables were pretty cold by the time they reached us and the sprouts especially so. No point in asking for more...we would have finished by the time they arrived! At 40 euros a head one would have hoped for better. So, we ate up, drank up, paid and left. Smelling of smoke and wishing we had gone elsewhere.

Had a nice dinner here with family earlier this month. The staff were very welcoming and the food was excellent value, and plenty of it. I had gazpacho, sole meunière, profiteroles and half a bottle of wine. Bill cami in at under €60 for four of us. The negative reviews really surprised me don’t let them put you off!
