After a day in Bendigo with a friend I remarked that everyone we'd dealt in (in shops, eateries and the art gallery) had been pleasant. My friend had stayed in Bendigo for a few days on another occasion and had become fond of the place. On the demerit side, the city is nastily chopped apart by broad, busy roads; it could be far more elegantly laid out with pedestrians in mind. Thankfully there are a couple of malls, and local drivers do give way to pedestrians. The city and surrounds have a large population of welfare-dependent people. This is reflected in the high number of opportunity (charity) shops. Cultural institutions and social history attract visitors and spending money; I hope Bendigo continues to build on this strength.
I would highly recommend this place, A bit of everything for everyone. Driving into the city at night is beautiful how they have set out the lighting. most shop keepers were friendly and food wise has a good variety for all occasions. Lots of activities for kids if your on a budget in particular was the bendigo pottery. kids had a ball being able to have hands on activities
