If your looking for a quick lunch this is the place to go. The seafood is excellent especially the clams. They also have a wonderful fried chicken. The ice-cream is very good with your choices of everything from sundays to just a cone. The view is St. Mary's Bay is incredible. Wonderful service from Jean himself. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Chez Jean Dairy Twirl:
There is nothing objectionable about the food at Chez Jean. Unfortunately, portion sizes are about HALF of what they should be, and prices are inflated so high that it's almost heartbreaking to open your takeout box or look at your plate and realize how little you've received for the extravagant price you've paid. We live in the area and Dairy Twirl is one of our favorites. Last time we got the Speck Cheeseburger. Two thick hand-shaped patties, bacon, fully dressed. Delicious. The dining room overlooks the bay, so you can't find a fantastic view. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. The Dairy Twirl is a local treasure!
I recently had a banana split at this restaurant. When I asked where the bananas were, I was told they were at the bottom. There were only about four small slices of banana. I also ordered a hamburger and onion rings. The burger was very small and not bad, but at $22, it felt expensive. The space was clean.
The service was terrible, prices were high, and portions were very small. The staff were incredibly rude, the restaurant was dirty, and the food tasted like old, rancid oil.
The scallops they serve are excellent. I will definitely make sure to visit this restaurant when I am in Nova Scotia. I try to go at least once a year, sometimes even twice. The ice cream is a nice added bonus. The dining area is large and I really enjoy the view.
We were hungry, travelling on the back roads and found this restaurant. It served the classic canteen food, but it was made to order and quite good. Prices were not cheap but not outrageous either. The weather was not inspiring enough for the ice cream.
