I recently visited Quinte Restaurant and was greeted by cheerful waitresses, reminiscent of Sirens luring Odysseus into trouble. We were quickly seated, and our waitress dashed off to who-knows-what, possibly some secret waitress business. At the next table, patrons were lamenting the slow service, so we decided to time how long it would take for our orders to arrive. At 9 minutes and 32 seconds, our waitress returned with two small glasses of water before disappearing again. If only we had known that the kitchen was experiencing a drought and had run out of water. By 15:44, my wife received her Caesar salad, which might satisfy the tastes of 9 out of 10 rabbits. A few minutes later, I was served a bowl of lukewarm soup that suspiciously resembled watered-down stewed tomatoes, accompanied by overcooked macaroni that had reached a delightful mushiness. I can only imagine that any prison would take pride in offering such a dish. My veal parmesan arrived at 24:56, but my wife's meal came 4 minutes and 26 seconds later. Unfortunately, my meal was cold. The veal had potential — it likely tasted good about 10 minutes before being served. It was hidden beneath a mound of cold stewed tomatoes, with the spaghetti lurking shamefully underneath. The sauce looked like a poorly placed toupee on a bald head, so I give it zero points for presentation. My wife couldn’t even eat her cold, overcooked spaghetti, which was also swimming in tasteless stewed tomatoes masquerading as sauce. To top it off, we were told they had run out of garlic bread, leaving us to consume our bland meals without any accompaniment to offset the flavorless spaghetti. I suppose they thought that adding bread would somehow enhance the taste. There are frontline war zones that offer better dining experiences. Our meal brought back memories of when my mom was away and my dad cooked with the enthusiasm of a prison guard. The waitress never returned to check on us or refill our water; she likely had her hands full putting our uneaten meals in the fridge for later.
