I've been in the STL are pretty much my whole life and never made it over to Eckert's, so I was very excited to visit in Oct during apple season. I had planned to meet a friend there on a Saturday and we made reservations for the restaurant (our main draw). What Darlene L doesn't like about Eckert's Country:
I was so excited to go there, I've never been there before, however I will not go back, I have to be on a gluten free diet, and their options are not great, I wish I would have taken a picture, my plate consisted of a plain burger and little potatoes, no lettuce or tomato or anything, I asked for it and they were happy to get it, my daughter in law apologized for taking me there. It had been over a decade since my last visit to the Eckert's restaurant, and boy do I regret that! We got there pretty close to closing time (not egregiously so) on a Sunday but the food was still excellent and served with a smile! I loved the house salad and its dressing, and my wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed our dumplings and pot pie entrees. Much better than the country store competition! What a wonderful in its entirety from Restaurant to shop, activities and everything across the board. We will return.
Would have been a FIVE star review. The only negative was the LINER between the tray and the food. I get it, the liner is appropriate for the fried Chicken, fries, burgers and the like, but it is not appropriate for mashed potatoes, green beans and the country fried steak with gravy as it became saturated and it deteriorated. Bad experience.. I had breakfast with santa and the breakfast was just absolutely terrible. The food was overcooked and tasted like it had been sitting out all day. The manager did not offer a partial refund or anything. “I’m sorry have a good day” is the most we got. Also the person in the front of the restaurant raised her voice at my mom. Not to mention this place is pricey.. Strongly recommend not coming to this place.
