This has always been one of my favorite location brands when visiting Belfort. This statue was designed by architect and sculptor, Frederic Bartholdi, the same architect who designed the Statue of Liberty in New York City. View all feedback.
We were in this city on business. We visited the fortress. In winter there are no people here. Pleasant cashiers. Cool, but incredibly beautiful.
Belfort is always worth a trip. The fortress is really awesome. We were thrilled. We stayed one night with the camper in Belfort on the parking lot. Thank you to the community you provide. Visit the place and you are so excited. Super cozy restaurants and locals, invite to the Schoppen.
Absolutely impressive monument and excellent work by Monsieur Bartholdi. This is the only way to get to Belfort.
Beautiful place with A great view of Belfort and the mountains. I thought you gave to pay everything but that wasn’t true. You can just walk to the fort, go up, enjoy the view and walk anywhere nearby. Also in the summer it is a good place to get some sun, because there is plenty of grass where you can lay down and enjoy the sun and the view.
If you are in the area, visit. You can get fairly close for free, but to get really close you have to pay a 1 Euro museum fee. The lion statue celebrates the local resistance to the Prussians during the Napoleonic period, an event that I knew nothing about. The statue itself is interesting, made of smaller blocks instead of a large stone.
