This has always been one of my favorite location brands when visiting Belfort. This statue was designed by architect and sculptor, Frederic Bartholdi, the same architect who designed the Statue of Liberty in New York City. View all feedback.
We were in this city on business. We visited the fortress. In winter there are no people here. Pleasant cashiers. Cool, but incredibly beautiful.
Beautiful place with A great view of Belfort and the mountains. I thought you gave to pay everything but that wasn’t true. You can just walk to the fort, go up, enjoy the view and walk anywhere nearby. Also in the summer it is a good place to get some sun, because there is plenty of grass where you can lay down and enjoy the sun and the view.
If you are in the area, visit. You can get fairly close for free, but to get really close you have to pay a 1 Euro museum fee. The lion statue celebrates the local resistance to the Prussians during the Napoleonic period, an event that I knew nothing about. The statue itself is interesting, made of smaller blocks instead of a large stone.

Interesting place in belfort. It is located at the top of the Belfort Castle. It is completely made of red sandstone and was completed in 1880. The rock lion is very large, which symbolizes the heroic French resistance during the seizure of Belfort. You can take a panoramic view of the whole city from the top of the Belfort Castle. Interesting in this lion is Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, famous for the sculpture of the Statue of Liberty. There is a museum in the castle that has Som antic coins and ancient monuments. The lion itself is very famous so you can find many small versions in the museum. The whole castle is very large, so make sure to bring a bottle of water with you if you want to thoroughly explore. There is a nice restaurant in the castle that serves delicious food, but I am not sure if it is open all day. I visited this twice and the weather was pretty good both times. The second time this place is visited, there was a history festival based on World War 1, which was quite impressive. Everything in a very interesting place with a rich historical background.
