While some patrons were disappointed by the lack of menu variety and slow service, others praised the delicious food and excellent service. The ambiance is ideal for gatherings, with a mix of modern and historic charm. The staff, particularly Mirek and Mark, received high praise for their friendliness and attentiveness. The strict dress code may deter some, but the overall experience was enjoyable for many, with tasty cocktails and well-presented dishes. Despite mixed reviews, the Northern Whig seems to be a popular choice for those seeking a unique dining experience in Belfast.
Discovered this establishment following a day of exploring Belfast. Could not have chosen better. Greeted by the incredibly nice and polite waiter Mirek. We hadn't booked but that was no problem and he looked after us splendidly. It's a lovely restaurant, full of character and original features and the food was superb. We all thought it was lovely. It was nicely presented and came out promptly. I could hardly eat it I was that full, but the apple pie for dessert was superb! No hesitation in recommending the Northern Whig!
Delicious food for a very fair price in a very friendly and warm atmosphere. Service was very good. We will come back soon
We would visit the Northern whig regularly the atmosphere is amazing and the food is excellent but what sets the Northern whig out from other restaurants/bars in Belfast is the staff they are very friendly especially Mirek Mark they are so attentive and friendly you definitely couldn't ask for better service.
Excellent food. Great service came twice because Mark served us so well. Huge portions tried several items on the menu over two nights and everything was incredible. Bread board...roast beef...salads everything great and reasonable.
Us again... My self and my husband came for food on Saturday night and late Sunday afternoon. The Whig is by far our favourite place in Belfast. Garlic Mushrooms Salmon Risotto for me on Saturday, husband had the bread and open steak sandwich. It was delightful. It's not a criticism, but the bread starter would work well as a sharer. The garlic butter was to die for. Sunday, I had the squid and then lamb, husband had the chorizo breadsticks and the the beef. We always enjoy our food and drinks in The Whig, however this was by far the best. It was also lovely to see some of the same staff, for example Mirek, and the gent who had the checked shirt on (forgot his name looks like a manager? also, the door staff (guy who was on Sunday afternoon, great guy, not that he recognised us this time haha I didn't catch who we were served by, however the staff who served us and anyone we had an interaction with were lovely as always. See you again soon no doubt, and thank you again for a wonderful experience.
