Amazing food experience at a Michelin star venue! The presentation was immaculate! And the flavours were just bursting in your mouth

Unpretentious restaurant in central Dijon providing excellent service and very good food. The foie gras was superb, the monkfish perfectly cooked and the cheese plate a great way to end a meal. We shared a bottle of decent white burgundy and the price was around £150 for two, all inclusive. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area but L’Essentiel is well worth a visit.

Dijon is a great dining city and L’Essentiel was our favorite. It’s a very popular, buzzy spot with vibrant decor and comfortable seating. They were very welcoming and service was good, especially considering that 3 guys were handling all of the tables. There’s a set menu and you can select 3, 4 or 6 courses including daily specials. My husband and I both started with the trout, which was delicious, followed by the quenelles (very good), then he had the veal and I had the chicken, both wonderful and very tender. We finished with a yummy chocolate dessert. I had a glass of Duval-Leroy Champagne with the trout and quenelles, followed by a glass of a lovely Santenay with the chicken. It’s a great value for an excellent meal.

Asked for recommendations at my hotel for dinner places. This came up tops with the staff. Was told that they had sent many of their guests to this restaurant and all of them had positive feedback. Staff can speak limited English. Menu was in French. Ordered the menu du jour. Entree was a cauliflower dish, main was beef with some nuts and dessert was some refreshing peach dish. Very authentic Burgundy dishes!

Our lunch for three at L'essentiel was exceptional in every way. The food was fabulous creative and delicious course by course, from appetizers to desserts. It's hard to single out one star dish, since every single thing was terrific, but maybe my own favorite was the amazing gazpacho. From arrival to departure the service was impeccable and much appreciated, as we were unfortunately delayed on the road and had to call and inform that our arrival would not be quite on time for our reservation, which was already toward the late end of their lunch opening hours. By the time we finished the restaurant was closed until dinner except for us, but we were believably assured that this was fine and we should simply enjoy and not rush. Enjoy we did. All three of us agreed this was our single favorite meal in a week spent in Burgundy, even better than the (also great) MIchelin starred place we went to in Beaune the next day in celebration of a wedding anniversary. We would love to make a repeat visit to L'essentiel an essential part of any future return to beautiful Dijon.
