Excellent barbecue but expensive compared to some other favorite places. We had smoked turkey and a boudin brisket link. They were both delicious, as was the cilantro coleslaw. View all feedback.
What Darryl Laake doesn't like about 1701 Barbecue:
Good bbq but the bbq joints nowadays are pricing themselves out of business. This is outrageous the prices they charge. People used to give the best value but nowadays it's highway robbery. Buy your own pit it's an investment that will save you tons of money. Brisket costs $2.95 a pound raw for Pete's sake ten times plus the finished product? View all feedback.
I'm not originally from Texas, and I've not been the biggest fan of Boudin...but their homemade Boudin is some of the best I've ever had! Their sides are no joke either, everything tasted like it was made well and with a lot of Texas BBQ love. The staffwas extremely friendly and offered plenty of wonderful suggestions to me as a newcomer. Definitely coming back here, and I'drecommend everyone else give it a try! But come early in the day, they're so good that they run out fast!!
1701 BBQ was an all around great experience! Myself and a couple friends are doing the TX Monthly top 50 BBQ passport challenge. Of 40 ?cue stops so far, I am pleased to put 1701 BBQ in the top 5. The atmosphere was great, and we loved the musician playingtraditional country music inside. The interior decor was rustic, clean, and cleverly decorated; exactly what I?ve come toappreciate in BBQ joints. The staff, especially pit master Travis, were extremely courteous to us. Travis even took the time totalk to us at our table for awhile, asking us about our various BBQ adventures with the TX Monthly Top 50 contest. The ?cue wastop notch, the brisket had a perfectly peppery bark and the tender well seasoned ribs fell right off the bone. A fairly newaddition was the homemade strawberry cake, which we hope they keep around! All in all, it was a wonderful experience that Iwould highly recommend going out of your way to try!! ????????
Pitmaster Travis was one of the nicest people we have encountered in our quest to visit all of the Texas Monthly top 50 BBQ joints. Brisket was done to perfection and we got to try one of their newer desserts, a strawberry cake that was perhaps thebest cake we have tried.
Been to 27 of the top Texas Monthly Top 50. One bite of the brisket and I knew I found gold. Even better, brisket, pork ribs and jalapeno/cheese sausage are all exemplary. Add in the potato salad and slaw? Murderer's row. Simply fantastic. Oh, andthe sauce is great but there is absolutely no need for it on this BBQ.
The food was as good as expected. I'd waited a while before going back and the wait was met with some really awesome BBQ! There are a couple of dishes that I think the could be improved upon, being the the baked beans, and the slaw; the slaw being theworst, IMHO. Other than those, everything else I've had from there is top notch.
