What John H doesn't like about The Cedars Inn:
The waitress seemed unfamiliar with the menu, responding to simple inquiries with a shrug. We requested to speak with the chef, but he didn’t inspire much confidence either. The last straw was when I discovered they didn’t offer a basic garden salad and had no bread available. When we inquired about the freshness of a dish called Endless Summer, we were told it was sourced from a local fish market, but it was unclear... View all feedback.
Without a doubt, these are the best crab cakes I’ve ever tasted. The service is outstanding, and the music they play perfectly complements the atmosphere. I will definitely be returning, and I highly recommend that anyone looking for fantastic food at great prices do the same.
I just had a fantastic lunch! The Cedars also serves breakfast, and I’m looking forward to trying it the next time we're in town!
We're definitely returning this summer. Everything about it was superb!
Our waitress seemed unfamiliar with the menu, and simple questions were met with confusion. We requested to speak to the chef, but he didn't inspire much confidence. The final straw was discovering that they didn't offer a simple garden salad and had no bread available. When we inquired about the fresh fish from their "Endless Summer" dish, we were told they source it from a local fish market, but whether it was fresh or frozen was unclear. Feeling disappointed, we left and decided to go to Blue Moon, where we ended up having a wonderful meal. Tonight, we plan to try Beaufort Grocery instead.
When she eventually returned, she briefly corked a bottle of wine we had brought along and informed us that the corkage fee was twenty dollars. This was a bit surprising, as I had called beforehand and was told it would be fifteen. It wasn’t a huge issue, but she then took our wine and didn’t collect anyone’s drink orders. A while later, she returned with six glasses, implying that we were expected to share one bottle among us. Things didn’t seem to improve from there. After a long pause, she finally took our drink orders, explaining that they had just received their liquor license, and the selection was quite limited. We ordered drinks like Crown on the rocks and lemon drops, but ended up with some bottom-shelf options. After a lengthy wait of about fifteen minutes, our drinks finally arrived, which we certainly needed. We decided to place an order for both appetizers and entrees, but were informed that they might be out of the grouper. She left and returned shortly after to confirm that they indeed were out of it. It would have been helpful to know this in advance, as we could have made different plans. In the end, we ordered five scallop dishes and a shrimp and grits, all of which were quite enjoyable. While waiting for our entrees, we inquired about bread, which she brought out. Unfortunately, it tasted like stale dough balls and was quite disappointing. After finishing our meals, we requested the checks. This process went smoothly until I noticed I had been charged for a nine-dollar house salad instead of the four-dollar option that I had specifically pointed out to the waitress. She promptly corrected the bill, and we left feeling like we had just navigated quite an experience!
