Thank you, Tripadvisor reviewers, for a truly excellent meal in Basque Country. This is fine dining at its best. Genial hosts, great wine, amazing combinations of flavors, and a price commensurate with the meal served. Highly recommended!! View all feedback.
What Christophe Leconte doesn't like about Au bouchon basque:
we had booked in this establishment for ten people as part of a business meal. We decided to stay on the bistro and take tapas. the first were served around 9:00. Three quarters of an hour we wanted to recommend it to accompany beautiful bottles. And no. the chief decided to shut down the "hot." balance: frustration and challenge to find another restaurant to finish our dinner. Maybe they don't need to work or they d... View all feedback.
Nice and friendly. Wine was delicious. Starters were style over substance and taste. However, the mains and desserts were fabulous. No complaints and we left full and happy. They stayed open longer than normal as we arrived late, no rushing and even offered coffee. It may be best to a carpark but great value for money- 3 courses 23 euros.
We had a really delicious meal here would highly recommend. Our favourite was a starter the ouef mollet pane.... We aren't really sure what we ate but it was absolutely amazing. This dish was one of our favourites on our month long stay in France! They do not speak much English here so that was a bit of a challenge but we managed and had a very nice young waitress who knew a little English. Great great food!
Lovely restaurant with an amazingly quick and friendly service and exceptional food. The open kitchen and the modern restaurant offers a very relaxing environment while the service is kind and personalized. The food is a delicious twist on traditional french cuisine, with extremely tender meet and incredible deserts.
Au Bouchon Basque has a restaurant and a bistrot. We booked a table at the restaurant three course evening meal 35 euros. The food was superb I had mackerel with green asparagus, pickled radish, olive oil sorbet and shards of aged Parmesan to start, then we shared a roasted filet mignonette, with new potatoes, asparagus (white), confit shallots in an amazing mustard and tarragon sauce and I finished with new season local strawberries with a pistachio cream and strawberry ice cream and sorbet. Excellent well priced wine list and amazing, helpful and friendly staff (helpful to have some French). It’s about 8 10 stroll from the old centre, along the river towards the rugby stadium. Wish we’d had more time for another visit!
This restaurant was recommended to us by friends and frankly we would not have found it ourselves. It is not the kind of restaurant you stumble across. Very good food, good selection on the menu whether a la carte or set menu. Service was professional and very friendly. There was 8 of us and everyone was served together.
