Dune Grass Cafe - Bay Head
Dune Grass Cafe
Description
Dune Grass, a charming seaside cafe, offers an average breakfast experience with a pleasant outdoor atmosphere. Despite some issues with slow service and average food quality, the staff were friendly. The quaint converted house setting was cozy, with seating available indoors and on a porch. While there were some minor discomforts like cramped seating and noisy surroundings, the menu selection was nice and served at reasonable prices. The service received mixed reviews but was overall efficient. Recommended for a casual meal with potential improvements in customer service and dining ambiance.

Enjoyed outdoor lunch with a friend. Service was outstanding, both our server and others frequently checked to see if we needed anything but they were not intrusive. We both ordered salads and the salad was drenched with dressing, way too much and made itdifficult to eat. If you eat here I would suggest dressing on the side. Also ordered home fries based on positive reviews, foundthem fine but not extraordinary.
My mom just got home from a very difficult 2 month hospital stay and getting out of the house is complicated. It was such a beautiful day and suggested an alfresco lunch anyway. It was our first time here. The food and service were good. However, wehad just paid our bill, mom was happily sipping the remainder of her lemonade and enjoying the sunshine when one of thewaitresses came over and brazenly told us to leave because they needed the table. Mind you, we had not even been there for anhour and most of that was waiting for our food. Thanks for ruining what would have been a great experience. Seriously rude!
We like local places especially in the off season when you don't have long waits for seating. This is a quaint place and converted from a house. The seating is in a dining room and seating is also on the converted old porch area with window seats. A little cramped for my taste but ok. Outside seating in the warmer months probably nicer. There was a better table available for the entire time we were there but we were told to move from there to a smaller area on the porch for no reason. There is one isolated table for two 5 ft from the restrooms to avoid at all costs. The constant noise from the hand drier and toilet flushing is like sitting in the last seat of an airplane with the constant traffic. So much so I apologized to them after using the facilities. I heard them ask to be moved to another table that was open and they were denied. The breakfasts were ok. Omelets were overcooked for my taste, but ok. Nice menu selection and reasonable prices. The service was excellent. The server was efficient, albeit stoic. Forgot to ask for dry toast, which came covered in what tasted like margarine. My bad. Scraped it off. My wife just ate the crust. Small thin sliced pieces too. Food was just average, in my opinion.
Beautiful establishment, very friendly waitstaff ! Unfortunately the food was not that great. Disappointed for what I paid for it all.
I strongly advise against visiting this restaurant. The service was abysmal, and we felt completely unwelcome. We were on a tight schedule, as we needed to catch a train just an hour after arriving. Unfortunately, after waiting 40 minutes for our order, it became clear that we wouldn’t receive our food in time. When we asked our server if we could get our food to go and settle the bill, she vanished and never returned. We tried to seek help from another staff member, but she claimed there was nothing she could do, not even print a bill. Eventually, we did get the check and paid quickly, only to be told that our food was on the way. Sadly, it never arrived, and we had no choice but to leave. While it’s understandable for a restaurant to be busy on a summer weekend, a little communication from the staff would have made a significant difference.
