While some dishes, like the fish and chips, receive praise for their freshness and generous portions, others fall short of expectations, leaving guests feeling unsatisfied and underwhelmed by pricing. Service appears to be a mixed bag—friendly yet occasionally slow, with instances of poor staff interactions highlighting management issues. Still, many guests enjoy their visits, particularly relishing the Sunday roasts and hearty breakfasts. Overall, the charming setting is a draw, despite some inconsistencies in food quality and service.
The setting of the restaurant is beautiful. The food was enjoyable but not outstanding. The service was distracted, with our waitress appearing very stressed and audibly sighing, although she may not have been aware of it. The pub is lovely, but both the food and the service could use some improvement. Would I return? Maybe.
Stayed 2 nights with 4 friends (6 in all) .Comfortable rooms in The Shed annexe . Beautiful spot , nothing too much trouble, good food and great beer and wine. Would definitely go back. Recommended.
A beautiful pub, and superb food and drink. Staff very friendly and attentive. I will be back next time to stay for a weekend.
A quaint looking pub in a beautiful location but we felt the food was pricey disappointing. One of our meals was completely overcooked to the point it was inedible and had to be sent back! Lovely staff but sadly wouldn’t rush back….
We went for Sunday lunch after a walk in the lovely countryside around Combe Hay. Service was good but the disappointment was that only three items were offered as main courses (for Sunday lunch) and only one of those was a vegan option. And that option was a risotto, which seems to be the standard vegan option in about 75% of pub restaurants. It 's not very creative and although I am an omnivore, my partner is not. We should probably have looked at the menu beforehand, but really, in this day and age, having only one vegan item on the menu is a bit behind the times.
