My friend and i visited this pub on the off chance and we were pleasantly surprised. It is a lovely little pub with an interesting menu which I particularly liked. I can't recall what I had exactly but I do remember thinking it was good. I am keen to go back to have something different. The food and service is excellent so I will definitely be back with my mother one day. View all feedback.
What charliechunk doesn't like about The Cross Keys:
The interior of the pub is lovely and the staff are friendly, but the temperature inside was quite cold. Despite understanding that it is an old pub, I was uncomfortable enough to keep my coat on. The Sunday lunch we ordered was average, but we felt that it was overpriced for the portion sizes. We were surprised to find out that we had to pay an additional fee for a Yorkshire pudding on top of the already expensive £... View all feedback.
We booked the Christmas Lunch set meal for Christmas Eve (we decided to treat ourselves this year, as this isn 't something we normally do at Christmas, as it 's expensive. On arrival at the pub, there were no staff around, so we thought we 'd just sit at the table which had been set with cutlery. I noticed that there were hardly any decorations up and so it didn 't feel 'Special ' or indeed 'Christmassy '. such a shame. We visited at Halloween time and that was better. Whoever laid the table, had done it so that you were facing the wall and not the fireplace – a bit strange I thought! So we changed that ourselves. The table also hadn 't been cleaned properly from the previous customer, which was not nice. The service wasn 't great for the money they charge. Not made to feel very welcome or special. When each course was brought to the table, there was no mention as to what the starters were. It wasn 't obvious from looking at it. However, the food was lovely, but the service and the overall lack of Christmassy ambience, left us feeling underwhelmed. Unfortunately, we won 't be booking for next year.
I stopped by for a drink at 9:45 after a sports game at Bath Uni. The bar staff were very unwelcoming, with the opening remark being "you can only have one drink and need to leave at 10pm." The pub was busy, yet no one else was given the same treatment. This was unprofessional and I'm certain the owner would be surprised.
Terrible service, meal took forever to arrive, soup was brought out with main meals but there were no spoons to eat it with, we waited over 2 hours for the meal to arrive, when we asked why it was so long we were told the chicken takes a long time to cook, but the chicken was cold when it did eventually arrive, the roast potato's I think had been left from the weekend before, dry absolutely no taste to them, the broccoli was yellow, we decided on Cheesecake for dessert even this we had to wait nearly 3/4 of an hour before that arrived, there were no apologies for the delay.I suggest they either hire more staff to speed things up or invest in some new ovens
The food took 2 hours to arrive. Children were crying, so I had to give them my mother's day chocolates. We asked 3 times where our food was, only to be told that the chicken takes a long time. When the food finally came out, the chicken was cold and the roast potatoes were burnt. The chips for the baby came last and were so overcooked that they were practically just oil. There were no check backs to see if the food was okay. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. The bill was £293, so the service should have been much better.
We thoroughly enjoyed our traditional Sunday lunch. they food was delicious and tasted like a proper family Sunday lunch but without all the effort. the young staff were friendly and helpful. a lovely Sunday treat
