Description

At Downshift Diner, experiences vary widely, revealing a dichotomy of service and food quality. While some patrons rave about the friendly atmosphere, quick service, and delectable burgers and appetizers – even noting impressive acts of customer care, such as a server delivering forgotten items to a nearby motel – others express disappointment with inefficiencies and food preparation. Complaints include long waits, lost orders, and unremarkable dishes, highlighting inconsistencies in the kitchen. Overall, Downshift Diner emerges as a charming spot with potential, yet the need for improved service and reliability is evident to ensure a consistently satisfying dining experience.

Food for the most was good. I almost always order onion rings or fried green tomatoes. Sometimes I order both. I always ask for a cup of ranch with each. For some reason today the little girl in there had an attitude and would only give one. She said you only get one cup. If you spend that much money in an establishment they could at least give you a .50 cent cup of ranch. I would have even paid for it. I'm not paying for the attitude.

I was charged ALMOST EIGHTEEN dollars for a KID’S spaghetti! It’s advertised for 6 bucks and I got charged 12 dollars more. It was also disgusting. I will say that my calzone was ok. I got a to go order for my boyfriend because he wasn’t with my son and I. I ordered a plain Philly and mozzarella sticks for. I did not check the box the ladies sent out because at that point I was extremely overwhelmed. I made the trip home and went to call them. I realized that their phone number wasn’t listed on google for the Bastian location. So, I called the other location. A lady picks up and I tell her what I needed. She hands the phone over to the manager. I was actually kinda confused about he had to get on the phone for missing mozzarella sticks, but I guess she thought I was going to ask for one? Or they wanted to hear how the other restaurant was doing. Either way, I tell him it’s no big deal. He then asks “what’d you think of the restaurant?” I didn’t want to lie so I told him that the ladies were sweet, but the food and prices were terrible. Naturally, this starts a huge conversation. He tells me that I was overcharged for my boyfriend’s Philly. That they’re still trying to get these waitresses trained. Which I totally get, but why not have some of the veterans from the other location come help out for awhile. You’re setting your employees up for failure because that’s a huge menu. Honestly, the manager was fine until we got to the spaghetti topic. I got out that my little boy did get meat sauce and he just completely talked over me. I was trying to explain that yes I saw that an adult spaghetti does have an upcharge for that, but this was for a FIVE year old.

The staff was nice but the place is dirty! The soap dispenser in the ladies' room was broken and when I mentioned it they laughed and said they guessed they'd have to go get pump soap across the street at the ExxonMobil across the street but no one did. The table top was so sticky my shirt stuck to it and the door out of the restroom area was gray with what looked like years of dirty hands. I was sick of fast food and I got slow food, for sure. I guess it was ridiculous of me to hope for some delicious local specialty. Fettuccine with bacon.

We are so glad they came to Bastian! The food is as good as that at the original Pit Stop Pasta and Grill. You must try them out.

This is a nice little place they try to serve the interstate people as well as is locals. So here's the tip; get the classic burger and the fried pickles on the side.
