Was stevebillericay at Magic Mushroom a mag?
My first visit, wife’s 3rd. I was impressed with set meal price(Friday night)£32.50pp three course, The quality of food was excellent, service was good, my one quibble was price of a bottle of wine, for what was a very average Rioja,it’s noticeable that there’s no wine prices on website, probably wise, overall a very good evening, we had a 6.30pm sitting as evening wore on it became very busy, (8pm) Would definitely... What santry1963 dislikes about Magic Mushroom:
Ordered a cream tea take away very mean one slice of sausage roll 1/2” thick each and only enough cream and jam for one scone each but given two scones each for what it cost I’ve had a lot better won’t be back View all feedback.
Had a meal here on a cold wet Nov evening. On arrival my partner and I were greeted warmly and shown to a lovely booth table which was very cosy. Ww ordered wine which arrived promptly and was served to us. Perfect temperature too. We did not feel under pressure to order quickly so allowed us to enjoy the wine and chat. The starter was crab and crostinis. Very tasty and beautifully presented. The flavours were amazing and left us wanting more. We both had seabass and again presentation and flavours amazing. No dessert as no room. Lovely atmosphere and all waiting staff polite and attentive. This was a birthday treat for me from my partner and it was just perfect. We will be back. Thankyou all.
Good food in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We had the white Rioja which was lovely. We only intended to have 1 bottle but had to have another. Service was a bit slow but it suited us as we wasn’t rushed and it allowed us time to chat and catch up which we hadn’t done for a few months.
The restaurant is not very knowledgeable about gluten-free options. It is disappointing that in this day and age you have to remind the waitstaff multiple times about gluten intolerance. Despite this, the meal was enjoyable.
My husband and I have been regular visitors to this restaurant over the years and never had anything to complain about, so when my husband booked for my Birthday with my family (6 adults and 2 children) we were all really looking forward to a lovely Sunday late lunch/early dinner. Our table was booked for 4.30 and we all arrived on time and were shown to our table straight away. We all ordered pre dinner drinks whilst choosing from the Sunday menu. All of our starters were lovely, including the prawn cocktail and the soup, however unfortunately we cannot say the same for the mains.....3 x beef, which of the two slices were fatty and rather tough, the roast potatoes were very very hard and tough and very difficult to cut through, the Yorkshire puddings were burnt and really quite inedible and the gravy, already on the plate, was very thin and watery. My husband had the lamb shoulder which was extremely dry. Vegetables were served to the table and consisted of carrots, parsnips and large slices of onion and swede mash, not a green vegetable in sight. We also had a bottle of wine which we continued to pour ourselves throughout our meal.......in the 'old days ' the wine was always poured for us! It was plain to see when we were 'finished ' eating our meals that there was so much left on our plates as not one of us enjoyed the dinner at all and it was all very dissapointing, hence we all turned down the offer of dessert, although my grandson ordered the kids brownie and ice cream which he enjoyed! Overall our visit was really really disappointing and sorry to say we left the restaurant all saying the same.....we will not be visiting again soon!
