Contribute FeedbackOscar's restaurant impresses with its stunning decor and inviting ambiance, making it an ideal spot for special occasions. However, diners have reported inconsistent service quality and meal preparation. While standout dishes like oak smoked salmon and falafel burgers receive high praise, others, including the sea bass and caesar salad, have fallen short of expectations. Service delays and occasional disorganization have marred the experience for some patrons, despite the staff's professionalism and friendliness. Overall, while Oscar's showcases delicious offerings in a lovely setting, improvements in service and food consistency would elevate the dining experience significantly.
We had a wonderful afternoon tea in a picturesque setting and then enjoyed drinks in the garden. It was a perfect afternoon, and Jordan, Katie, Laragh, and Lou took great care of us. Thank you all for a lovely experience.
We visited this lovely hotel today and had a fantastic lunch. The presentation was great, the food was delicious, and it was very good value for money. We will definitely be returning. The hotel and restaurant are both stunning. Being a Lutyens property, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to visit such a remarkable building. The head waiter was very friendly and informed us about upcoming events and offers. Despite living nearby, we are considering staying overnight. An added bonus is that the hotel is located next to Furness Abbey. We are excited to revisit in the future.
I am extremely disappointed with the poor service at Abbey House. My friends and I booked a table in the restaurant for a simple Sunday lunch, but it took 3.5 hours to be served. The food itself was good, but the service was virtually nonexistent. We encountered several issues, such as confusion upon arrival as the staff couldn't find our booking, a 25-minute wait to place our drinks order, and a long wait for our food. Other tables were served quickly while we struggled to even get a dessert menu. The inexperienced young staff seemed unsupported and lacked smiles or interaction. One staff member stood out for his efficiency, but he was clearly overworked. We had to order cocktails without seeing a menu and were unsure of the prices. It took a long time to pay the bill and overall, it took us 3.5 hours to have two courses and a few drinks each. Despite the good food and ambiance, the poor service really let down our experience. It's a shame that such a nice place is marred by inadequate service.
Actually had breakfast and dinner here but I've reviewed breakfast under the hotels name. Visited Oscars as staying at the hotel and the menu looked lovely. A few days before coming, the menu changed and I had a little panic as you do! One of us will eat anything, and the other is a bit more particular, and there was only one thing on the mains they would eat. Anyway I needn't have worried we both had soup to start with which was piping hot and prompt. The bread roll could have been a bit larger but that said, I was full at the end of the meal! Then one of us had the duck main (this was missing the endive nobody could explain why but hey ho) and the other had the steak burger. Both plates were wiped clean by the end and satisfied smiles on our faces. We didn't need dessert but have you even been away if you don't come back heavier even if its just one night. Cheesecake and tart both lovely and a nice sized portion. Staff were attentive but not intrusive.
Me and my husband recently dined in Oscar’s restaurant and it did not disappoint. I love to try things out of my comfort zone so decided to try the venison tartar. This was rich in flavor and beautifully presented. My husband ordered the fish cake which tasted so fresh and fluffy. For mains my husband ordered the jerk chicken burger with fries, this was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. I opted for the loin of venison with chocolate jus. This was cooked perfect for me and the veg just how I like it. We were quite full by this point but thought rude not to order a dessert so decided to share the rhubarb custard tart. You could tell this was all homemade (just like Nanna used to make). Staff were so attentive and you could tell they really love working at the hotel. Big shout out to rob and all the staff.
