We were so impressed that we ate there twice during our stay in Barr; Business lunch (a bargain for 20 € for 3 dishes) and tasting menu in the evening. The food was consistently of high quality and paired with excellent drink suggestions. Nice and friendly staff added to our experience!

We chose a butternut squash with cream cheese and hazel nuts followed by pig cheek on sauerkraut cabbage and poached red wine pear and ice cream. Delicious

L’essentiel is nested in a quiet lane close to the center, it has a terrace but we had lunch inside. Food is really good, typical Alsacien dishes. It is good value for money. The only problem was how long we had to wait between dishes. It felt like they kitchen was understaffed. Do not go if you are in a hurry...

Made a reservation and immediately felt that this was the right place to hav... read more Discovered L’essentiel via a recommendation through a colleague that lives in Barr. Made a reservation and immediately felt that this was the right place to have a nice dinner. The chef works with daily fresh ingredients. We chose the discovery menu with accompanying wines and what followed was a 6 course meal of an exceptional class and presentation. We were not an easy group as multiple people had specific dietary restrictions and all of this was not a problem at all. The chef adapted flawlessly. Wines were very well chosen and were much appreciated by the group as well. The lady that served us was very professional, helpful and pleasant to talk with. Our next company dinner will definitely take place in this restaurant. I would highly recommend it for business dinners as well as a dinner with family or friends. Congrats again to the chef and the waitress for a lovely culinary evening in Barr !
