Description

Maxim Restaurant offers a varied kosher dairy and fish menu that has both passionate supporters and discontented patrons. While many appreciate the generous portions and delightful dishes like smoked salmon salads and hummus starters, others lament rising prices and inconsistent service—once described as "dreadful." Some diners encounter long waits and basic errors, while others enjoy a pleasant atmosphere with attentive staff. The restaurant's special lunch menu boasts excellent value, although experiences can vary significantly. Overall, Maxim stands as a popular choice with room for improvement in service and food consistency.

We visited on Boxing Day and the place was quite busy with tables of 4 guests or more. I had the avocado club sandwich which being made of 3 slices of toasted bread crammed with filling was too tall to easily fit in the mouth. The middle slice of bread being sticky with dressing etc one could not pull it apart and keep fingers clean. My wife and daughter enjoyed mushroom risotto and spaghetti respectively. Apple strudel with ice cream dessert was nice. Service was o.k..

I popped in for lunch and ordered a starter and a main. I waited ages for my starter which never arrived... eventually when my food did arrive it was the main course. They took back my mains and finally brought me the starter of spring rolls, which was absolutely delicious. My main course of mushroom ravioli was a little bit too rich and a bit too heavy on the tomato sauce that I couldn't taste mushroom. The staff were smoking outside so there was a waft of cigarette smoke, which is a shame. Other than that the staff were friendly.

One of the best hidden gems I've found is Maxim's. The food is delicious, the service is welcoming, and the ambiance is calm and cozy compared to the busy and loud restaurants nearby. I highly recommend it for small gatherings with friends or family where you can actually have a conversation without shouting!

We had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately the food was disappointing and the restaurant was dirty and in poor condition.
