Our poor waiter appeared to be the only waiter actually doing any work . The pear and walnut salad was good. The pasta was reheated stodgy with little sauce.

Still, you gotta eat so you put that aside and hope for the best. Being early evening I ordered a cocktail first and asked for the food to arrive later. However the pasta and wine arrived half way through sipping the cocktail. First fail. It gave the impression of not being freshly cooked, with all of it overcooked, stodgy in the middle and dried out bits around the edges welded together and/or stuck firmly to the plate. I told the waiter how awful it was, which was relayed to the kitchen, where great consternation ensued. A small amount was deducted from the bill by substituting a cheaper item on it (go figure) but no apology. On paying there was no hint in the air from either side that a tip might be involved. A quick ciao and I was gone.
