We were in Barcelona for one night after our cruise and before we flew home to the U.S. and I really wanted Paella in Spain. The problem is, I don't eat mammals or mussels. We asked our hotel to recommend a place and they took us further than we wanted to walk and the place they recommended ended up not having Paella anyway. We were resolved and disappointed that we would not be eating Paella before we went home and then we find HUGO's literally a few doors down from our hotel. They had 5 or 6 different Paellas on the menu, including one with just chicken and a vegetarian Paella as well. I was so excited that I didn't care that I had already eaten dinner, I was eating another one! We ordered the vegetarian Paella and decided to split it. Good thing we did because the portion was LARGE!! We also ordered a Sangria and it was delicious and FULL of fresh fruit!! The prices were very reasonable. The ONLY issue we had was with the young server. She did not come back and check to see if we needed anything as often as I would have liked but the good food and drink made up for that! If I ever go back to Barcelona, I will be eating here again!!
As you walk in the automatic outer doors almost take you by surprise. So into a warm, galley-like twin row of tables leading to the bar and kitchen area you venture. Only to find round the corner it expands to twice the size. The menu was clearly printed in Spanish and English and offered a decent variety of meat, fish and vegetarian options in the form of starters, salads, paella and Chilean specialities. We opted to share the cheese empanadas great light pastry) and cerviche marinated fish and lime) starters, which were excellent. For dinner we went for lobster, shrimp prawn, squid, mussels, cockle paella and tomato, black olive, got cheese salad. Ok fairs fair, I could not taste the lobster and on reflection I should have ordered normal prawns instead of de-shelling shrimps, however it tasted great in a tomato base. Good coffee here too, quality. This Chilean eaterie has an obvious young customer base, a place to meet, eat and attend to social media posts without disturbing the passing trade. Toilets are up to date and very clean with baby changig area Think this restaurant would surprise many with it's authenticity and well worth trying.
