We went in August to Les Peupliers with 2 young kids and had a nice dinner. There aren't many good restaurants in the surroundings of Embrun and this is certainly one of the better ones. The food is good and prices are fair. The service is also good, although not all dishes arrived at the same time. The chef is trying to make something special of each dish. We can surely recommend the restaurant. View all feedback.
Dinner at Les Peupliers was a pleasant experience we had not expected. Our usual rule that eating in hotels is not always a satisfying experience is negated here. We had a fantastic dinner with delicious and beautifully decorated grilled vegetables, an Amuse Bouche of... purified peas, a smoked trout with what appeared to aromatized cream fraiche, and pork and fillet of beef, which were delicate and perfectly prepared. Dessert was the highlight of a three-week trip. The chocolate lava like cake served warm with a delicious pear cleaner (Poire William) oozing from it was excellent. It was served with a pot of raspberry sorbet, and fresh raspberries placed in a chocolate cup the form of a Treble Clef. I could have shared this dessert with my husband, but he had his own beautiful finale and I was thrilled to have such an unforgettable culinary treat!
This was a very friendly place for a meal. They accepted my vegetarian request and the staff was very attentive. You need to book as it was so busy in a hotel. The food was the second to none and a large selection that was difficult to find in French restaurants
We (I and my husband slept on a nearby campsite, with our backpacks. On the day of our wedding anniversary we started looking for restaurants nearby that served good food. We found Restaurant Les Peupliers and we were really not prepared for such an amazing surprise. Perfectly matched menu sets (only in French). The waiters explained to us, often with their hands: what we can expect. Perfectly selected wine. Good advice from the waiters! We really couldn't refuse the dessert, but normally we don't eat sweet things... And it is all in the beautiful surroundings of the mountains, outside the village: quiet, mountainrrents. Regrets our camping reservation for our anniversary night hotel looks better than the restaurant. I recommend it!
We ate on two nights. The first was very good. On the second, everything seemed to go wrong, hence only a three. This is a shame because a lot of work went into creating some special meals. We were advised to come at 7pm for an outside meal as the wind meant it would get colder as the evening went by. So we did! We were the first to arrive. It took 20 minutes to bring menus for food and drink. 40 minutes for the aperitifs to arrive.... Plus the beer and wine ordered to go with the meal which didn't arrive for another 40 minutes. Result, flat beer by the time my meal arrived. Maybe in France beer should be kept away from food! ;-)Anyway, 40 mins for any drinks, 70 mins for starters, which came just as I went back to our room to get some books and my iPod to fill the time. I was not the only one.Our main course came 95 minutes after we sat down, just as the reason became clear. The whole of the local chamber of commerce came to dinner. An hour late, presumably after a delayed meeting. This must be a nightmare for a restaurateur, especially when it is local opinion formers. On the other hand, many guests had come from other COUNTRIES to eat here. So all in all, rather disappointing. However, the owner came to talk to all those eating outside and explained the difficulties surrounding the big booking, with apologies. The food was great and we were offered a free liqueur and coffee to make up.When a restaurant shows it cares, it makes a difference. It was late coming .... Food was coming for the wrong tables amidst much fluster, presumably over the delayed group. Difficult.Anyway, lovely food, great value. Don't be put off.
Very good restaurant, but don't forget to book your table as it will be full on weekends. Many locals come here for dinner. The rooms are simple, but very clean, beautiful new bathrooms. Very pleasing spa is equipped with heated outdoor pool and indoor whirlpool, steam and normal sauna. We only spend one night here, but defenetly could have been more.
