Description

Thatch and Thyme offers a mixed dining experience. The quality of food can be inconsistent, with some dishes lacking expected elements. The restaurant's ambiance is charming with a lovely menu, exceptional coffee, and standout dishes like the Hake. The staff is friendly and accommodating, but improvements are needed in cleanliness and facilities like baby chairs and changing tables. Despite some flaws, Thatch and Thyme has the potential to provide a great dining experience, with positive reviews attesting to delicious food, friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere. Overall, the restaurant is worth a visit for a satisfying meal.

The Thatch is a lovely spot to catch up with friends over coffee or take a break during a long journey. However, the quality can be inconsistent. Some issues need attention — for instance, the baps often come out soggy, likely due to moisture from eggs or sauce. The porridge sometimes lacks the usual fruit compote, honey, and muesli, and can be undercooked. The açaí smoothie bowl occasionally misses the muesli, tastes off from authentic açaí, and is too runny with fruit settling at the bottom. Salmon and chicken salad plates may be dry around the edges. Additionally, the bathroom lacks a baby changing table, and the baby chairs feel unstable and unclean. On the upside, the fish is perfectly cooked on its better days, the menu offers great variety with fresh salads, and the coffee stands out. The hake dish is outstanding with well-balanced flavors. The open sandwich on brown bread is satisfying, and the goat cheese tart with beetroot is rich and flavorful. The restaurant’s flagstone floor adds charm, and the outdoor area is well-kept with fresh herbs. Despite some drawbacks, The Thatch has the potential to offer a truly enjoyable dining experience.

During a previous visit, I found the closing time enforcement somewhat strict. Surely, having a quick cup of tea before leaving shouldn't be too late. I understand that, like many venues, they are adapting to the evolving new normal; however, the hurried closing made me wonder if the focus is more on the staff’s convenience than the customers’. That's why I'm rating it as "Very Good" rather than "Excellent." Still, I would gladly visit again in the future.

The amazing staff at The Thatch provide excellent food. If you're journeying from Dublin to Killarney through Mitchelstown and Mallow, make sure to take a break here. The menu features thoughtfully prepared dishes with a great selection. It's absolutely worth the stop!

Oh my god a little piece of heaven. My friend took myself and husband for my birthday. We had the hake and my god the taste was something else actually tasted like fish. The pea purée was amazing. Highly recommend prices good staff excellent will definitely be back. I took my grandson a sausage roll home as know he loves them and said best sausage roll he ever had.

I absolutely loved the pan-fried hake at The Thatch; it was the best I've ever tasted. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. I couldn't resist trying the rhubarb crumble for dessert, which was absolutely outstanding.
