My husband and I finally visited this restaurant in January, despite living nearby for 24 years. We were pleasantly surprised by our experience. The atmosphere was relaxed, the meal was delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Richard, our host, greeted us warmly and we started our evening with drinks in the lounge by a cozy fire while we looked over the menu. Although the menu wasn't extensive, it had somet... Recently enjoyed a wonderful stay (our third over the years) at Harmony Hill. The welcome is warm and we enjoyed a couple of pre dinner drinks in the beautiful drawing room. Our dinner as expected was fantastic and relaxed and after a restful sleep we were treated to a 1st class breakfast. The only thing reasonable about this place is the price everything else is brilliant.
On arrival we were lead into one of 2 drawing rooms before our food was ready, we were allowed to relax and take in the wonderful character of the house and have a wee look at the menu before ordering. One word describes the menu WOW Plenty of selection to please everyone! One member of our party was Gluten and Dairy Intolerant, they were accommodated for with lots of choice from their starter right through to their dessert! Once our food was ready we were lead into the dining room and served our delicious food. We were never rushed to finish any course. Definitely s good find and can't wait to return!
We were staying in this country house as part of a tour and ate in the 'country kitchen ' style restaurant. Richard is an excellent host, full of chat and banter. The comfortable lounge was welcoming for a pre dinner drink, and Richard talked us through the menu and the various choices on offer. We went through to the dining room(s) and were surprised at the quaint layout of 'booths ' providing privacy and a cosy feel. The starters were OK, but the mains were magnificent. Their butcher had supplied a magnificent piece of fillet steak which was perfectly cooked, right up there with the best, really really good. But not as good as the pork which was perfect, and was the best main course of our four day gourmet trip gorgeous sweet and savoury sauce. Dessert was unremarkable, and the cheeseboard was a bit of a disappointment. Nothing actually wrong or worthy of a complaint, but just not matching the standard of the rest of the excellent meal. Wine was good quality and well priced but the selection was a bit limited.
Excellent selection for vegetarians, gluten-free and pescatarian. The vegetable tagine was comparable to the tagines I've had in Paris and Istanbul. The chef provided a gluten-free version in addition to the standard fare. The fish dinner was also superb! The atmosphere was exquisite with Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Billie Holiday playing softly in the background at this historic home. Leaving the restaurant, however, feels dangerous as the driveway abuts a busy street with no visibility. The addition of a mirror across from the driveway to ensure safety when leaving would make this a perfect place for a special occasion.
Had an excellent meal...the fillet steak was perfectly cooked and presented. Richard and his staff were very attentive and made you feel special.
