Used to go to Desperate Dans quite regularly but was surprised at a recent visit, not very clean and very tired looking. Food is okay but small servings
Brilliant wee café, to which I have been going for many years I used to frequent it as a teenager some years ago and it hasn't changed a bit; the same lady owner is still there which just adds to the charm and...homely feel! The food is lovely I had delicious dry crispy chips, a piece of breaded plaice and a lovely side salad. The portion sizing is good, everything was cooked fresh and arrived hot. This meal was under a fiver excellent value!! There are lots of specials available. I was particularly impressed by the selection of baked potatoes for each. Nothing is a bother and the owner is friendly, yet professional. I will most definitely be coming back and bringing my family! Thank you!
Seems Desperate Dan's is nearly as old as Ballymena itself! This stalwart has been serving passers by for many years and although appearing dated that is part of its charm. I had a good breakfast and tea.
When we visit our granddaughter in Northern Ireland, the day always starts with an Ulster fry from Desperate Dan's. The friendly and pleasant staff, always with a smile, sets us up for the day, and the food is top-notch, earning a perfect 10 out of 10 rating. That's why we keep going back.
