Was Velva Lockman at Drunken Monkey a mag?
Great food! Worth the stop in Truckee! My family and I bought out the restaurant with all our sushi orders. Real crab in the California rolls and the sushimi was so fresh and perfect. Delicious! Definitely go back again. View all feedback.

What Bell Bruen dislikes about Drunken Monkey:
Service is horrible. It 's understandable the understaffing everywhere but the attitude of the service is why I 'm giving only 2 stars. We were ignored and then the we asked the hostess to tell our server we were ready. She finally comes when we decide to go. Her attitude was well no one told me and we explained that we did and her attitude was so you don 't want service! No thank you. Not anymore. View all feedback.

Outstanding in every way! The atmosphere, service, vibe, and menu diversity are all exceptional. If you haven't been yet, make sure to add it to your must-try list!

Another reviewer put it nicely: this is decent Japanese food for a mountain town. Whether I'm in NYC or Austin, I always enjoy getting ramen and gyoza. After a long day of cat skiing (even though it didn’t go as planned), a warm bowl of ramen sounded incredibly appealing. I wouldn't say it was exceptional, but I found it quite satisfactory. In comparison to options like pizza, burgers, or steak and potatoes, it tasted much better. Our group also ordered potstickers, which seemed to be pre-packaged and frozen—nothing surprising, given the location. I ordered a rainbow roll that was a bit uninspiring; the fish appeared to be frozen, I assume. However, the rest of the group was happy with their meals and found the prices reasonable, so I wouldn't criticize this place too harshly. The service took a while because the group couldn’t decide what to order, but the waitress was very nice and took good care of us. Overall, I’d rate the food a 3 out of 5 and the service a 4 out of 5.

Firdt time in Truckee and inly a few Japanese food around where we were staying. I would say this place a gem. We were sat at the sushi bar . The sushi chef was very good and helpful. I love the Spider roll and the salmon skin, spider hand rolls too!

The waitress walked past our table three times without acknowledging us, despite having two tables occupied and four available in her section. After waiting for 20 minutes, I asked a staff member strolling by about our order and received a harsh response, complete with an angry glare. I simply wanted to place an order, but her demeanor was off-putting. Finally, after 25 minutes, the waitress came to take our order. She barely made eye contact and seemed exhausted and unenthusiastic. The food was decent—I would give it 3 out of 5 stars. We had sushi rolls and edamame, which were fine. However, the overall atmosphere was lacking; the staff appeared disengaged and overwhelmed, showing little in the way of customer service. Overall, I would rate the service as 0 out of 5. To make matters worse, the Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara was equally disappointing—another 0 out of 5. This place has a lot of potential, but it really needs to improve employee attitudes and hire better staff.

Fun little Fusion Sushi place to which the locals come. Not the most authentic sushi, but still delicious and fresh. Off the main tourist area of Truckee but definitely back.
