We enjoyed the cuisine, our first experience with Basque and hopefully not our last. Excellent food and service throughout. You were recommended by a waiter from Little Italy restaurant who raved about Basque. Also glad to meet the owner Benji who was most cordial. Tres bien! See you again highly recommended. What Janis Gleason doesn't like about Benji's French Basque Restaurant:
Wow, what was a disappointment of this visit, ordered the Ribeye Steak and a bottle of wine and the setup only for me dinner alone and some time for me. The setup does not include Pickled Tongue like all other Basque foods. The wine was very good. I asked for my dinner ticket, and they accused me of steak anyway. I said nothing, and I just paid the bill and never left it back. As long as Benjis...
Benji people are always great. Something's wrong with the food since I visited years ago. Everything was underseasoned. The beans, tomatoes and pommes were decent. Soup was standard and Bland. Salsa was jammed. The engraving for the lamb leg (that was not a leg, but discs of a leg maybe) was at best preserved or condensed. The green beans were made with an attempt to make homemade tomato sauce on it. The cheesecake was frozen grocery store. The drinks are still stiff and people are still great, but this is not the old Benjis.
My first Basque experience was a good one to try with a lot of great food. Go back.
Friendly and friendly staff, authentic and delicious food, great family atmosphere. This was the first time we visited. It was a very busy Wednesday evening that, as I was told, was a typical witness to the quality of this restaurant. Lots of food, with soup, salad, beans, french fries and bread with your choice of entrée. Fresh ingredients, well prepared. Very recommended.
Stopped for lunch on the way to Yosemite. Lunch menu is large and offers a lot of variety including lamb, seafood, beef tongue, seafood, escargot, and sandwiches. Sauteed breaded Scallops in Tarragon sauce over rice was fresh, perfectly cooked and very tasty along with the included simple green salad with a nice homemade French vinaigrette, French fries a little limp), French bread a little stale) and very tasty hot spicy Spanish sauce included for $22. Good service in a dark, simple dining room. Basque sausage sandwich was spicy and good served with salad, French fries, French bread and Spanish sauce for $17. Good value. Easy parking in lot. Uncrowded at lunch on a Saturday. We would return next time we are in the area.
