Auberge des Tilleuls - Badefols-d'Ans

This restaurant is one of only two in the picturesque village of Badefois d 'Ans in the Dordogne, and a true gem. We were a group of six adults, six kids and two babies, and they accommodated us beautifully with specially prepared meals for the kids (no kids menu but proper, decent food), and the adults could choose from what was available on that day meaning everything was fresh and exquisitely prepared. This is duck country, and as a result the choices were a bit duck heavy but loving duck as we do that was not a problem. The foie gras was fantastic, the house wine lovely, the service very friendly and the terrace dining was just as you 'd want a summer evening 's meal in France to be like. Do go!

I found out by chance that Francoise was hosting a jazz evening and four of us went along, not knowing what to expect. It was an excellent evening. Food was great and the entertainment amazing. There was great ambience and we were fitted in at the last minute. No complaints whatsoever. Would highly recommend both value for money and quality. We ate in the dinning room but outside terrace would be good in better weather.

Whilst visiting old friends from the UK who now live in nearby Hauterfort they suggested we try the lunch menu here and it proved a good choice on a bright December day. On arrival it looked closed but sure enough just before 1pm it opened up, it sounded like there was a large dinner party there the previous evening and it may have taken its toll on the owner, none the less a welcoming fire was soon ablaze and we were treated to a wonderful 3 course lunch menu in pleasant authentic surroundings, I may never visit again but if you're ever in the area give it a try and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Came on the Auberge while out touring; stopped for afternoon coffee and got a warm welcome from Franciose the owner, who speaks pretty good English and nothing 's a problem, happy to explain the menu. This place is very traditional with a log fire-place so big there are seats within either sides of it! Its cosy, warm and friendly, very clean; so welcoming we booked for dinner on my wife 's birthday enjoying some of the very best traditional food we have sampled .....anywhere! (c58€ for 2). The owner cooks to order, uses all local produce including some actually made in the village itself. We also had a lunch there a few days later; again first class (c28€ for 2). Don 't visit if you 're looking for any form of 'fast food ' it just doesn 't exist. This almost unique village restaurant is really worth seeking out; its well supported by the locals, that 's a good sign I 'm not surprised.....it deserves this write-up! Its our 3rd time in France and des Tilleuls is the best yet.

Super frame the staff is very nice. The meal is hearty and delicious. The lunch menu of the day is mandatory but it is worth it. Very good quality value !!!
