However, after seeing some positive reviews, we decided to give it another shot. The food was good but not exceptional. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy, and while the sausage was flavorful, the two large patties were a bit much. The homemade bread for the toast was outstanding! The eggs were fresh and cooked just right. The service was attentive at first, but things changed when several large groups arrived wanting to be seated together. The three women working were doing their best to accommodate everyone, which left those of us who were already there to manage on our own — understandable, considering how hard they were working. We will definitely return! Overall, I’d rate the food, service, and atmosphere each a 4.

From the locals to the restaurant to the employees, we didn’t just feel welcomed, we felt at home. My husband and I went to the restaurant for take out this morning and we were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. We were obviously out of place and everyone we encountered went out of their way to welcome us. The food was fantastic! I ordered the country friend steak and eggs. It was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious! My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy. He couldn’t say enough about how tasty it was. He LOVED the biscuits. Don’t miss out on your chance to dine here while in Backus! As for my family, we are definitely returning! We sold our cabin a few years ago, but I had the pleasure of stopping in for breakfast this past fall. The pancakes are still just how I remember: bigger than the plate and your head — topped with strawberries. The biscuits are gravy were perfect on a cold morning.
