This is a great local pub that combines a wide selection of quality beer and a surprisingly good restaurant The menu is not extensive and better for it in my opinion Steak is often over priced and under prepared, here the steak was excellent, cooked perfectly nicely presented and superb value for money, a rare find. Excellent and well worthy of the 5 stars presented here! View all feedback.
What caseyuu doesn't like about The Hop Pole Inn:
I cycled over (10 miles) for lunch, having checked the website for opening hours, only to find the pub shut and a notice on the gate with updated opening times, for much later in the day. So I cannot judge the quality of the beer or the food. Such a shame since this place had been recommended strongly. View all feedback.
Saw reviews and went to try it for ourselves nearly put off by the roadside location but so glad we went in. Just had a drink on the first visit as it was out of kitchen hours when we visited, however the menu enticed us back. My homemade fish cakes were superb and the other half was really pleased he finally chose to have a steak as he gave it 10/10. New to the area, but this is on our list for the future.
Had the fish and chips, both of which were nicely cooked.Slightly above average in price.Menu has become slightly more extensive in recent times, which is a big improvement.
Visited on the spur of the moment to see a friend gig! We had our dog with us so really were dubious of what sort of welcome we'd get if any! 3 hours later and us and the dog were still there ! Very welcoming and informative staff, seriously good cheap selection of ales. This was what a boozer should be like !! Can't recommend it highly enough.
Came here to watch the rugby with friends, the service was incredibly friendly, there was a really nice atmosphere and a great selection of beers. A brilliant pub
My self and a few friends went to the hop pole for a few beers and a bit of grub. The beers are always great and staff friendly. However we decided to have some food consisting of several steaks and a tuna steak. The steaks were by no means cheap so you would hope they would be cocked properly. This is not what happened. The steaks were not cocked by a competent chef who understands how to **** steak. Over cocked burnt and tasted of coal. A waste of a decent animal being slathered.Tuna steak. Well over cocked dry and yet again a waste of an over fished species. The pub is great and the beer is well managed the food a massive disappointment.
