Le Central - Axat

Our friends and we wanted to sit outside in a beautiful environment and eat good food in a welcoming atmosphere, so we chose Le Bar Central. We always enjoy our time in this restaurant, but it was even better than normal. Our appetizers of salad... of gésiers and salad of roasted goat cheese on whole grain bread were absolutely delicious. The dressing on the salad was amazing and the whole was garnished with roasted pine nuts. Two of us chose the entrecôte that was declared to be cooked for perfection and beautifully seasoned. One had a magret de canard who was a very generous portion and again said to be cooked for perfection. One had Steak Haché, who looked fantastic and was again a big part. All were served with crispy freshly cooked frits and salad. It was all fantastic and none of us had room for dessert, but we saw the most amazing ice cream desserts served and wished we were still hungry. The service was excellent and the team made us very welcome. We were not rushed and despite the fact that other diners were turned away, we never felt we should go. We think it is necessary to make a reservation for lunch in this restaurant as it is an extremely popular place. This is restless as we have four appetizers and four main courses all cooked and presented, four aperitif, wine and beer for 25€ per head in addition to them offer a very attractive performance for our friends dog...so friendly. Our friends surprised us with an opportunity for lunch so that we all chose; from personal experiences the central. It was short-term, but with its usual preference approach for its customers Jean Benoit has turned us into what proved to be a fully booked restaurant. It was an excellent meal of freshly roasted fish with chips and salad and my alternative of the best burger I had in a very long time.... perfectly cooked on my order of rare and served in a warm roasted bungalow with salad, houseries and a delicious relish. We were too crowded to take dessert, but we had beer and wine and the whole came to less than 60€...... an absolute bargain of a meal in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The weather was wet, but we still had the beautiful view of the river Aude, who hurried under us, although we were inside. Great service and a powerful and clearly qualified team were just the icing on the cake. We love this restaurant for the good value, good quality and excellent service that we have always given, and it is often our choice for lunch in every season. Lovely restaurant best in Axat for informal dining IMHO. I had the formula of the day for 13€50 which comprised three courses (as pictured) while my wife just had a 9€ main course. Good quality, good service, acceptable table wine and a fantastic view...from the terrace (also pictured) made for a good lunch with friends. Solid recommendation.

On a rainy day we decided we needed cheering up so we booked a table at Le Central. We were warmly welcomed on arrival despite us being quite late and were shown to our table which was set in a warm room. The restaurant was...mostly occupied by locals but the menu was equally as extensive as it is in the tourist season. Two of our party opted for the formula du jour at 13€ per head and two for the a la carte and both were deemed excellent quality and value for money. I chose the veloute of cauliflower and squash and it was beautifully presented and equally delicious. I then had the rich and tender boeuf bourginion served with a fresh tagliatelle....very tasty indeed. The tarte aux pommes was nice and the pastry was crispy and caramelised and was a very acceptable dessert for a formula menu especially when the entree and main course could easily have been a la carte. We had four three course meals, aperitifs and two very good bottles of wine plus coffee all for 129€ .....a bargain. The service was excellent throughout even though they were busy with local clientele taking their lunch break during the usual lunch period and when we lounged around chatting over our coffees until well after 2:30 we never felt rushed once. We arrived on the little red train and were given two options to eat in Axat. We chose to go to eat at Le Central and what a wonderful surprise we got. The food was amazing and the service exceptional. We explained we only had...a short while before we reboarded the train and our service reflected our demand, on time, super efficient and catering at ease for my gluten free allergy. I have no problem giving this restaurant a 5 star rating it actually deserves 10.
