Located on one of the 6 canals of Aveiro I spotted this location during my gondola tour. The awning sign clearly said Cozinha Regional . I was going back for sure as I 'm on an eat everything the locals like journey. As I approached the specials board had a roasted pig dish and and a recommendation was cod in the house special tomato based sauce. The pig was excellent, with the skin crispy crunchy delicious, served with a green simple salad hand cut fried potato crisps €10. The cod was grilled, thick and meaty lightly covered by a delectable secret house tomato sauce; served with mixed shoe string vegetables broccoli. €15 The size of this meal was too much for 1 person more like a 2 person dish. Chef Joao came to our table to chat about rugby Downunder (Australia) NZ and of course I quizzes him on his special sauce. His wife Maria was our simply perfect host/waitress. Thanks for a great meal and the warm personal chatter to match! Vicki Sydney Australia
This is a small family-run Taberna next to the canal. We had lunch here and the food was so good that we immediately booked for dinner. We have eaten both meat and fish here and both were excellent. A good range of wines as well. Prices are very reasonable and it is frequented by many locals which is a good sign. It is a little further away from the typical tourist traps in Central Aveiro where you will pay double the price for the privilege of being a tourist, but the extra walking is good for you ! Highly Recommended.
Bad service! We went as a couple, ordered a Bacalhau (codfich) dish and an underdone steak. The Bacalhau (a most elaborated dish) came about 20 min in advance of the steak, which was the simplest and quickest thing to do!!!! My boyfriend waited for me and his food got completely cold. When my steak came, I still had to wait 5 more minutes for the fries!!! For desert, we were suggested Crepes with “ovos moles” cream (very traditional in Aveiro). When they came, they were not “ovos moles” at all, but a common pastry cream! Completely disappointing!
My wife and I went to Aveiro on good Friday 2014. We were looking for fish and we learned this restaurant was a good choice. Our experience was fantastic, i had the fish stew and my wife Bacalhau. Both were excellent, big enough for 3-4 people. Very reasonable price and excellent recommendation on the wine. Very good for family, i did not go there with kids but i saw other families having also a great time.
