Pancake Cottage
3.8 / 5 (774 reviews)

Description

Pancake Cottage charms with a waterfront setting, friendly staff and generous breakfast portions—fluffy pancakes, standout burgers and hearty brunch classics—making it a popular stop for ferry travelers and groups. Service can be slow, waits long, and food quality inconsistent (occasionally cold or undercooked). Prices for bottled drinks feel high, and allergy handling and bill-splitting are problematic. Best for those who value view and portions over speedy, flawless service.

I ordered the pecan pancakes, and it turned out to be just three pancakes with a handful of dry pecans scattered on top. Honestly, it was quite underwhelming. I can't say I know what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn’t that.

Also, regarding dietary restrictions, the server mentioned, "we have gluten-free toast, but it’s cooked in the same toaster as our regular toast." It seems no one there has bothered to take the ServSafe Allergens online course. This could seriously make someone sick.

This place is in a great spot, and that must be the only reason it's busy because the food is sub-par, not cheap and slow to get. Egg whites with some spinach and tomatoes took 40 minutes and came watery and bland. My wife had a bagel and egg whites, also bland and watery. Worst meal I've had since being on the island. They forgot my toast which happens but he didn't come back to the table since taking our order so he didn't know until the meal was over. Lesson learned, plenty of good places to eat on the island that are cheaper faster so you can enjoy the reason you came here.

Not worth the wait.

The food was disappointing. My husband ordered the pancakes, but they tasted like cardboard. I tried the chilaquiles, which were bland and watery—I only ate the avocado and egg on top. We barely ate our meals. It’s truly unfortunate how poor the food quality is in Catalina; there are only a few places with decent options. If we return, we'll probably rent an Airbnb so we can prepare our own meals.
