We ate here on a Monday night when almost everything else in the town was shut. very pleased that we did. The menu was a very reasonable price and the food of a high standard - nothing exciting or innovative but good cooking, which is what we wanted. The service was friendly without being effusive and we would go again. View all feedback.
What Samuel Bader doesn't like about La Tete Noire:
the menu is still the same price, but they only have about half on their teller. this is especially true for the main course, huh in mushroom engraving, it is more like a chicken bone in gravur. the service is in order, but not more than that....The wee, although a 'premier cru' was no more than average. overall, with regard to value ratio, it is no! we will not go back there (we often have to go.) if they stay in au... This is a small family-run hotel in the centre of a historic city. We received a warm welcome after a long train journey on a chilly, wet night. We enjoyed an excellent meal in the best Burgundian tradition; the service was particularly friendly and attentive. The room was very comfortable and we slept well. A further advantage is that the restaurant is open on Sunday evenings, not always an easy time in provincial France. Anyone who loves mediaeval art and enjoys good food should visit Autun; I would strongly recommend this hotel.
A good menu with varied choices. The locals come here so you know it is good. They offer fixed menu and al la carte. The service was excellent and the owner was very accommodating trying to find something that my husband, who was not feeling well, might enjoy eating.
Place just around the corner from the main square, well worth those few steps. Great hospitality and service, simple decor, generous portions and perfectly cooked food. I had duck breast with orange, my husband had a steak, both very happy. Dessert just absolute delight, 'Illes flotantes' , light, tasty, perfect finish for the dinner. Great value for money, would go there any time again. Highly recommended.
Hellowe dined in your restaurant on the 31 August and are writing to say how much we enjoyed the experience. The meal was excellent, your staff were friendly, very attentive and kept an eye on us without being obtrusive. It was a very pleasant evening and good value for money. When we pass Autun again we will return for a repeat! With best wishes and please thank your staff for usChristine and David Martin
Reviewers who call this 'the best dining in Autun' can't be far wrong. We ate breakfasts and major meals here over several days...and not for lack of having other choices. Travelers and plenty of local people choose to dine here. The dining room(s) are spacious and cheerful, light-filled venues. Table linens are of good quality and the food is very, very good. Fresh and local with solid contemporary more than 'imaginative' recipes dominate the menus. Prices are moderate and the wine list does credit to the region.
