After trying many of the taco trucks on East Cesar Chavez, I can confidently say that this is the best one. My taco of choice is the Barbacoa which is out of this world good. The Cabeza and Tripad tacos are also very yummy! Today was my first time having a burrito (Barbacoa) and it was yummy as well. The size of it was fair, not too small, but also not big. I visit this place often; it's definitely my favorite taco spot! I absolutely love the Pastor tacos. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and since there's outdoor seating, just be mindful of the weather! They tend to get busy because they're so good, but the service is quick and the food is fantastic. If you're in downtown Austin, you have to check this place out! Food: 5/5
After trying many taco trucks on East Cesar Chavez, I can confidently say that this one stands out as the best. My favorite is the Barbacoa taco, which is exceptional. The Cabeza and Tripa tacos are also incredibly tasty! Today, I had a Barbacoa burrito for the first time, and it was delicious as well. The portion size was perfect—not too small and not too big. The Tortas are also a treat, with the Hawaiiana being particularly fantastic! Be sure to stop by for some of the best tacos in Austin!
Any review that criticizes these tacos for lacking flavor or fancy features misses the essence of what Trancas is all about. Las Trancas is a cornerstone of authentic Mexican cuisine, unapologetically genuine and not designed for American palates. They celebrate the natural flavors of the meat and the rich traditions that make tacos a cultural staple. For many of us from the North, this represents the true beauty of a taco in all its simplicity. I feel lucky to have a restaurant that doesn't complicate the concept and offers such a genuine experience to Austin locals in a friendly environment. Honestly, when most Austinites flock to taco spots, it's often for a gimmick aimed at American tastes, neglecting the core values that make food feel like home. I truly hope this place brings you the same joy it brings me every time I visit. Las Trancas is filled with love, character, and, most importantly, incredible flavor. P.S. The Campechano is definitely the star of the show!
They told us it was the best taco place in Austin but it was a bit below our expectations. The tacos where good but definitely not the best. The best tacos though where taco de lengua and carnitas. I recommend to try them out paired with a mexican soda. Staff is nice as well and place looks really authentic and they have a lot of options.
The tacos are very good but very very simple, literally just the meat, the onions, and the cilantro. I was expecting maybe something with more flavours, but it is still good. The Tacos de tripa and the ones de lengua were amazing. The quesadilla de lengua was very good as well. I also had a jarritos tamarind which I never tried before and was very good. Overall very positive feeling but I was expecting more seeing the other reviews which sold it as the best taco place in Austin.
